Hardware Bargains

The difference between an (expensive) ultraportable and an (inexpensive) netbook is steadily becoming more blurred.

I just bought an Acer Aspire One D155E netbook for only R2.5K -- and the performance is certainly not too shabby. Weighs just over a kilo too, should be ideal for varsity. 10.1" screen, a whopping 2GB of RAM, 320 GB HDD. The only real difference with an ultraportable (apart from being half the price or even less) is that netbooks have slower processors -- but the current 3rd generation is streets better than the rather clunky 1st generation a couple of years back. Case in point: this model has 'instant on' Android as a dual-boot: so you can view your photos, browse the web, listen to MP3s, within about 10 seconds of hitting the Power button!

So where'd u buy it?

Sorry about the delay in replying! I screwed up the model number: it is indeed a D255E, and it came standard from Acer with that configuration (e.g. the 2 GB of RAM). So it's definitely a model and configuration available locally. I actually got it from our local dealer (PC Worx in Rustenburg) for a (haggled) price of R2.5K, but I'm sure it's available elsewhere within that range.

Received and email from CSSI today on WD drives:
1tb WD10EARS R388 ex vat
2tb WD20EARS R598 ex vat
3tb WD30EZRS R998 ex vat

Limit 10 per customer

Sorry, you'll have to work out the price incl vat :/

Very good deal...

I would personally be more interested in the 700EB though.

5 inch E reader for R599. Petty good deal from one of those deal websites I think. Plays 720p video and music as well. I've grabbed one for myself. Deal ends in 10 hours!

I bought 2 of them myself. Very cool deal! Just wish they were more clear about how to use the 'coupons' once you've purchased them.

Checkers Hyper are selling a mini-blower(400w) blower for R129. Good value for a compact blower.

Catalogue link

I did click KZN so if it makes any difference change to suite your area :)

IMHO , it doesn't look rock solid to me but then again you get what you pay at that price eh.

thanks
thought it was maybe something else

I know its hardware, but im sure its not the type of hardware that is required for this thread...
