That P2770H sux:
1) only 1920x1080 resolution
2) still just a TN panel - hence poor colour reproduction and poor viewing angle
3) no VESA mounts
4) no LED backlighting

For any screen larger than 23", you should really look at IPS/S-IPS (non TN) kind of panels.
If it is going to be used as a PC monitor, it should have higher than 1920x1080 resolutions.

R3.2 - 3.5k Samsung LA32D550 - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/346013-Anybody-bought-the-LA32D550

32" FHD S-PVA panel, res could be higher, but it's fine if you have 1m viewing distance.

I'm sure LG also have some decent 32" IPS panels. The Sammy is particularly good as a monitor.

This is the bargain thread isn't it?
It's around R1000 cheaper than any other 27" monitor and one with the specs you speak of start at about double that price! Unless I've missed something?

The 23" e-IPS displays from AOC an LG are about the same price as this, actually a special at nivo for the AOC R2099 is a good option if you want an IPS display, if you'd like a large monitor for normal usage there's not much wrong with it besides not having a vesa mount. If you'd like an equivalent of an apple cinema display speak to Pada

I have one myself, but they go for around R3.7k-R4k these days!
House&home has a special at R3449 but that ends today.

Great price on the AOC there. But it's unfortunate that these 21.5/23" IPS screens are using e-IPS 6-bit panels with A-FRC/dithering for supposed 8-bit.

Most wouldn't know or care, but this bothers me. :/

Why? The difference is almost imperceptable, even if you know what to look for. It is these new e-IPS panels that have brought IPS into the current price range. In any event, the real issues with these screens have less to do with the panels themselves, and more with the design and electronics. The AOC behaves like a non-overdriven 14ms ISO panel and seems to have bad bleed along the bottom - 1, 2.

Seems like it would not be suited for fast-paced gaming, but otherwise nice as an alternative to TN.

Incredible Connection trade-in specials and discounts, they used to have this every Feb and August, going back to 2010. Last year (2011) they had it only in Feb. This year no sign of trade in month. Anyone know whether it's gonna happen or not this year?

Their Twitter account reported that trade-in specials will run from 16 February until end of the month.

Because it's perceptible for someone who knows, and irritating. ;) I'm now left with Dell U2410 and HP ZR24 proper 8-bit IPS panels (the Dell could be 10 bit?) to choose from.

I completely disagree. It is imperceptible to me, and I am VERY picky when it comes to monitors. I use 2xLP2065's everyday and I can tell you color rendition is not at all better on it than on my u2311 I also use daily.

OTOH, if you are willing to pay R5k for a U2410, rather spend ~R1400 more and get a u2711 with 2560x1440 res...

Your U2311 has been much better factory calibration. If LG/AOC/etc.'s e-IPS screens were as well calibrated, I would be with you.

Apple items are normally excluded from the trade in promotion.
