Be aware that Mecer might have "green feature" enabled causing to shutdown after few minutes under light load.
I found my RCT also shutting down under light load. It is sitting in a cupboard at the mo as I don't currently have a use for it.
Is there a setting or something to disable this behaviour?

My 750VA battery got killed by running the router ,only last an hour now running just the router.

At the start it did survive the full 2 hours.

I have 2000va running just the router now lol

My RCT 2000VA runs my 13" rMBP, modem, wifi router and switch for 2 hours. Most I've been is 2 hours 15 minutes. I'm hoping 2 hours uses around 70 - 80% capacity to keep life of the batteries good, I must log in and check.

Mecer ME-600-BK has a jumper on PCB, but removing jumper increased backup time only from 5 minutes to about 9 and after trying again backup time decreased. Perhaps some other factors are behind shutting it down.

Powering routers from UPS is not a good idea, as efficiency is very low at light loads. Perhaps you should look for DC/DC converter with lead-acid battery charging like MeanWell from Mantech. You can use UPS or any other 12V/7Ah battery and even old car battery.

Thanks for all the comments. Since I getting a big 2kva ups I was planning to run one of the TVs off of it along with the router so that I can use Netflix with load shedding.

I think I will go the RCT and perhaps get the better battery also.

If all you want is to power a router, get one of these:

What that does is, run the router directly off the 12v battery instead of inverting it up to AC and then back to DC. With that you can also cut out the AC/DC adapter of the router. Far more efficient and no worries about cutting out on low load. Function just like UPS would, just better.

Terrible overpriced, it doesn't include battery nor Meanwell from Mantech, it is a bargain thread.
BTW, don't be fooled by 3.x ampers figure, it has only 2.2A output (sufficient to power one router)

Thank you for your insight Mr. Smarty.

You should give an alternative, that qualify as a hardware bargain.

Any HDD specials out there? need to replace 3x 500gb drives with one bigger one.. ever since i paid R900 for a 2tb external i refuse to pay full price for hdds, this drive will be purely for storage so an external that i can remove the drive from will work just fine..

Dunno if used is your cuppa tea

But this is cheap

Was 1k not to long ago at incredible.

I did. I hinted already cheaper option in my earlier posts, but you didn't bother to search for it.
The hint is not really good enough. Going through the product catalog there is 100s of items. It is the same, to say one can find a person, and give the address as: Africa.

Pointless.

Thank you for wasting a few bytes on the internet.
