I was one of those opposed to the Kraft takeover of cadbury, I feel I'm not alone in saying that cadbury chocolate is just not the same anymore, ever since the Kraft takeover. The SO had a box of Milk tray she could not eat, passed in on to me and I agreed with her it tasted cheap. The box of Milk tray is also produced in Poland.

I searched online and found similar threads, here's one where Kraft tries to shift the blame.

Glucose syrup is one of the ingredients introduced recently, it really cheapens the texture of a quality chocolate.

Not only has their quality taken a hit, they have also dropped the weight of their chocolates from 100 Grams to 80/90 Grams recently...

Beacon improved quite a bit, as far as candy goes.
Cadbury doesn't even taste like chocolate anymore :(

Also noticed this, even with nestle. I think beacon is still the same though. This and the fact that they decided that a standard slab should be 80/90g instead of a 100g has seen me spending less on chocolates.

It's all part of the bigger plan:

From animal products to plant products to synthetic products .... thats' the natural evolution of food processing.

Eventually we'll be eating plastic.

Its also the reason why they are releasing the rounded bubbly bars - they can shave a little bit of the weight off it.
It was always good when it was made in Kenya, but I have also noticed a drop in quality.
Mind you - I seem to be noticing a drop in the quality of almost all sweets nowadays.

They say quality will drop further because cocoa is getting more expensive to buy.

Meh. With Beacon, you got what you paid for. But with Nestle and Cadbury, they aren't the same anymore.

We've switched to Milka. Tasted it in Germany, and it tastes just like milk chocolate should taste.

Yeah, when last have you acquired cocaine. Shits crazy expensive these days.

sigh. Different plants, you freaking muggle. Cocaine is from the coca plant, chocolate (far more addictive) is from the cocoa plant. edit (my bad - the cacao plant, the bean is called cocoa - this is getting confusing.)

But you are onto something there... Now that would be a biotech boon for the cartels.

Phew! So I was just ripped off 'in general' then.

Not unless we crowdfund a project to crossbreed the two. So the leaves can be used for cocaine, and the beans for chocolate.

I can imagine the moral crisis this would cause in the US.
'Its illegal and should be stopped.'
'But chocolate...'
'I don't like chocolate.'
'You beast!'

Back on topic - anyone noticed that even Old Brown Sherry seems weaker than it used to be?

I'll let you know in a couple of weeks when it's cooler.
