Has Digichilli Launched?

Thanks Dave, it makes sense. I sincerely trust that you guys will be able you sort things out.

Proff

No it doesn't. Why have uncapped accounts if you're expected not to use it as you like? Might as well go back to capped...

And how are Bandwidth Hogs and blocked IP's connected, as was the issue to blame earlier?

I'm also in the affected range (64.x) and it's not only affecting my intl, but my local is heavily affected.
Trying to download and install a file in Ubuntu via a local ftp (it's always fine) (and have tried several) and I'm getting speeds in the region of 800bps (0.8KBps).... and then it goes down.

We expect our network to run at maximum capacity and users to get as much as they can, but not at the expense of other users on the system. Our network has moved in excess of 6 TB's in 8 days. We're not being petty.

Uncapped is uncapped and that's what we advertise. We also say that business protocols will take priority during the day for obvious reasons.

Guys can happily queue their downloads and get it overnight or at a reasonable rate but if some actively conspire to impact the network and other people's experience we will have to mange more conservatively.

More than a few have downloaded in excess of 120GB in 10 days and particular users even more than 180GB. We don't have an issue. Most our test users have been understanding and we haven't had to police them. Big boys. Mostly.

We are also putting in news servers and gaming servers to improve our users experience, but individual greed and malfeasance cannot take precedence to functioning business usage.

Now. Stop tunneling your torrents inside http to avoid usage management during the day.

Thanx.

I can't even connect to any local game servers when playing TF2. And my irc latency to za.shadowfire.org is about 80000ms :<
If there are people abusing the network and trying to bypass things then they should be limited to what they pay for :(

My IP is also in that bloack... newsgroups are painfully slow, but HTTP is still going full speed. I'm on a 384k line.

I figured the newsgroups are just been throttled.

dave could you please reply to my pm have no luck today and it looks like the guys that were trying to help at the call center have gone home:(

My IP is in 196.44.64.x - seems like I'm in the bad block ........ *sigh*

The international downloads have been virtually unusable.......doesnt get more than 8K....... This is bad....

EDIT : It gets worse - I could download intl torrents at 20K-30K last night. I'm lucky if I get 1KBps now .....

Does that mean I will not get my "guaranteed" 256KB speed because it's business hours? I thought the minimum was always guaranteed regardless of what line you on, 384KB or 4MB?

Granted if people are on a 4MB downloading full blast you have a right and duty to throttle them to the guaranteed minimum (256KB) during business hours and only burst them full speed when your network state allows for it, ie after 11pm at night.

There are a few things you should remember:

ADSL is a best-effort service, so minimum speeds on your line cannot be guaranteed.
With regards to protocols (http->smtp->ftp->others) requiring preference, you might not be able to receive your "guaranteed" speed on a low-priority protocol.
You should keep this in mind.

On http you should always be able to achieve the guaranteed speed, assuming the server (website) you are connected to is able to deliver that speed.

Thanx Froot. Well said.

But if they throttling all but http, smtp, ftp...What stops the 4MB guys from pulling from file hosting sites like Rapidshare.com since it uses the http...

I'm not usually one to complain - but here goes nothing.

I dont believe DC was ready to launch (and charge people for it). I have paid my subscription for the month, but, for 2 days, have a connection thats pretty useless to me. I understand the chillies are profusely working on the issue, but, these issues could have been picked up in testing. I'm sure the testers stress-tested their circuits, why wasnt the issue around the "abuse" picked up?

My faith in DC is fast dwindling - I work in an IT environment, in a service delivery oriented department for a large corporate. Technical issues need to be resolved within hours. There are SLA's set up and penalties are to be paid if these SLA's are not met. I am used to working around technical issues in this manner, so the recent issues (sign-up and speed) have somewhat startled me, considering DC was ready to charge for the service.

I feel DC should still be in the test phase, and not be charging customers for this month's service. Before you know it, half the month would be gone and we will still going through these teething issues.

DC - This is not a flame - I'm just expressing myself in what I hope is a mature manner. I hope the issues do indeed get resolved soon as I would like to see you guys succeed. I'm sure I speak for all mybb members when I say we are grateful for what you are trying to do in this tough SA Market. Everybody should have affordable access to the www and you guys are clearly trying to achieve that.

Good luck with the gremlins.

Hi HoodRich,

Thanx for the feedback. It is taken in the spirit that you send it. We appreciate the issues. We believe we can deliver affordable broadband to SA.

I think my IP address is in that range :o
Getting local speeds of around 5KBps. mail.google.com barely loads in html mode.

I am in the same boat.
My Average is about 10k/b per second(if I'm lucky).
but I will not complain just yet, the Digichilli uncapped is very competitively priced and if they can just get past this hiccup and give us the minimum guaranteed speed they promised, then they will be very successful.

So for now I suggest everyone does like I have, get a 1 gig Afrihost for the time being and give Digichilli a chance, I for 1 am holding thumbs for you guys.

Good luck!

Dave - Thanks for understanding my views and not taking my post in the wrong manner.

For now (like most users) - I will get by by using prepaid accounts from other ISP's , which is getting a wee bit costly as the clock ticks.

Nevertheless, I am grateful for what you guys are striving to achieve. We have waited a long time for this to happen, and are just anxious.

I ask you to bare with some guys' impatience just as some us are being patient as you iron out the creases.
