ExpenZa - One of the most useful apps I've ever used unfortunately seems to have stopped being supported. Has anybody heard anything about it... recently?

I downloaded the app a few days ago and since then I have been unable to use it (i did use an earlier version of the app a couple of years ago). Now the app forces you to log in or register, both of which result in an error, leaving the app completely inaccessible and unusable! I tried to contact the vendor (Polymorph) by email and Twitter but haven't had a reply.

In the Google play store I saw for the last few months since roughly Aug-2014 people have been posting quite negative reviews complaining about login, connectivity and cloud syncing issues but the vendor doesn't seem to have replied once nor to have done anything about the issues.

Can anyone recommend a decent alternative?

Developer of ExpenZa here : Short answer, unfortunately yes, it has died.

We no longer have the time (i.e. money) to support it, and it's not an app that generates any income. So we made the very difficult decision to remove the app from the Play Store and no longer support it. We looked long and hard at all alternatives, from somehow trying to make money from it to getting an investor on board to fund development. Unfortunately the South African market for apps is just too small to make it viable (Andy Hadfield of Real Time Wine will tell you the same thing). If we do manage to get someone on board to help fund development, we'd be very happy to continue developing and supporting ExpenZa.

Perhaps, PM me.

This is very sad to hear.
One of the few really helpful apps out there.
Could you not revert the server part of the app, and only let us save the info on the device itself. Then the costs can be really low? Keeping it up to date should not take too much time, and I'm sure there is a lot of willing people out there that can help(me included)

I'm slowly moving over to SABankBox, and handwallet(since I'm desperate for a good auto budgeting app). But both have issues. Hopefully Handwallet can catch multiple payments in 1 SMS soon, then it will probably be my next budget app.
Until then I'm hoping that ExpenZa gets back to its glory days.

Expenza Database Needed

Hi There.
The latest version of Expenza (Before it died) did not have the option in to save the database.
I'm in urgent need of that sqlite db, my latest backup is a year old.
Are there any way I can get my hands on an earlier version of the apk, or a way to get that database without rooting my phone?

I'm still using it, and I still find it usefull!
However, having a backup of the database will be very handy.
Btw: I would be prepared to pay a monthly fee , wonder how many others feel the same..

Seems my troubles are over ... used helium to backup to dropbox.
Now must solve the encryption of android backup..

Potential Investor

Hi Wim
I might be interested in buying the app from you and extending it. Let's discuss.
My email address is [email protected]
Thanks
Tarri
