Has OpenWeb closed down?

Wanna game on Openweb's openbrowser?

Due to most forums' terms, I cannot post the IM conversation in full, as per Keoma's replies...But they were pithy, and I dare him to add them chronologically to the information below...

My experience with Openweb's openbrowser...

"Hi Keoma,

I am using the openbrowse 384k founders special for R279 per month. I need to use it for Secondlife.

I started on Thursday. I could not get it to work with the info given to me by your support staff over the phone. I was told that I must use squid.openweb.co.za in the Secondlife client web proxy address, which is by default, port 3128.

This did not work.

On Friday, I used 127.0.0.1, with port number 1080 in the Secondlife client web proxy address, with the openrouter tunnel set to Local Port: 3128, Remote Host: login.agni.lindendenlab.com, Remote Port: 3128

This worked and I got no error messages in the openrouter logging tab.

I was able to log in to the game, but it was extremely slow. 1-2k per second if I looked at the Local Area Connection Status window, which one gets when clicking on the two little monitor icons in system tray in windows. Secondlife kept logging me out every minute or two, since my speed was too slow.

If I surfed the web however, I could download, at 30-39k per second, like the usual speed with a 384k line. I could download during the day on Friday, before the weekend openrouter setup for downloading should be available.

Friday evening around 9pm, the line sped up for Secondlife. I logged in and had no problems. Worked perfectly.

Saturday morning, without having made any changes, other than installing internet explorer8, on shutdown, the evening before, I could not log in to Secondlife anymore and my mail recieving did not work anymore.

In the logging tab, I keep getting a "Testing MSN Proxy...Test Proxy result: Connection Refused (Error #10061) each time I start the openrouter.

But, I can still surf the web internationally and locally. In fact, even if I shut down openrouter, I can still surf the web internationally and locally...weird...

I have uninstalled IE8, but it did not fix the problem.

I did a Google for the error and found this thread http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthre...=113721&page=7

Please, is it possible that you can sort out this problem? It is driving me mad to know that I have lost a whole weekend of being with friends in Secondlife, with no email retrieval either.

Thank you very much for your assistance in this matter.

Kind regards,

...

Hi Keoma,

Sorry to bug you with this, but it seems that openbrowse works fine with Secondlife...for a while at least...

As I mentioned, I could use Secondlife on the Friday night, without any problems. On the Saturday, however, it seemed like Openweb was blocking me from using Secondlife.

I used my usual Telkom account again from the 1st of June. As soon as I ran out of the 1 gig international, I simply switched on openrouter and witout any changes in the router or Secondlife client, was able to again enter Secondlife without problems, using my 10gigs local bandwidth from Telkom.

However, at about 2am it seemed like I was again being blocked. I simply could not reach secondlife at all, but could still surf the web internationally...just like with the Openweb Founders special, when Secondlife worked...but then a while later, Secondlife seems blocked.

Please can you see if Secondlife is being blocked by Openweb.

In the thread I mentioned before, you were talking about people abusing the bandwidth usage. I hope I am not being stopped by Openweb from using Secondlife. It can operate ate at 50k if needed...so I will not be abusing bandwidth use.

I am interested in reselling openrouter packages for gamers, but then the openrouter must allow Secondlife and other games, that are able to run on 50-384k, on weekends.

Thank you very much for your assistance in this matter.

Kind regards,

Hi Keoma,

It does work. Perfectly. But only for a few hours. Then I get the same message that I get if I switch my modem off...as in no internet connection. That means Openweb is blocking me somehow, within hours of being in Secondlife.

Only secondlife is blocked. I can still surf the web internationally.

But now, after having used my Telkom gigs since the 1st of June, I just tried to use my Openweb account again, to see if I can get into Seconlife tonight, when I should be allowed the speed needed, as promised on the openbrowser Founders special page...

It simply will not work at all. The 10.0.0.2 Telkom modem settings page shows that the connection fails every time I test it. It simply does not work at all now. I had to use my Telkom local gigs again, to be able to write this complaint.

My Outlook Express email retrieval also no longer works. I need to log into the server to get it. The server shows openrouter is constantly logging me in and out every time I click anything.

I paid the R279 on the 19th of May. I have had only the one Friday evening in Secondlife, with the account, before Openweb seems to have blocked me from accessing Secondlife. It is now the 5th of June.

Has my account ended on the last day of the month...so that I must now shelve out another R279?

Also, please...can you let me know, for certain, if Openweb is blocking me from using Secondlife. login.agni.lindenlab.com

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Kind regards,

Hi Keoma,

Yes, I used the 3 gigs international Openweb Founders special bandwidth at the start, with no problems. My Telkom 1 gig international also on the 1st and 2nd June. It works without the Router.

Then, when I ran out of the international gigs each time, I was able to get into Secondlife for some hours, using the proxy. But then I suddenly cannot reach the Secondlife servers, like I'm offline.

Kind regards,"

...BTW, the MSN proxy, in the openrouter, shows itself to be working since 08/06/2009...So I managed to get my email...twice now...since the 19/05/2009...Yay! F***ed up service, proxy system and program...

Come Seacom, come EASSY, come...Let me buy tons of bandwidth...to sell at cost and below...just to eliminate the a**holes in this game...

Now I have stated before that Keoma is a stand up chap, but being an awesome person does not equal satisfactory service which is what I sadly received from Openweb.

agreed, no internet from openweb for just over a week now, and considering its a "30gb" package, It is ludacris and a sure efficient way to disallow me to make use of my payed for cap. and still no reply that helps:mad:

30 gigs convertable, should, on a proxy, like what openweb offers at a cost, of about the same, should be around 300 bucks a month...if it works...to con your customers...not clever...

Why bulll****? ...just be straight with me... Say, hey, I can't carry you...

If you are looking for larger international packages, take a look at these deals:

I trust this information will assist :)

Do the maths...

The weekday speed of Openweb's openbrowse/openrouter is:

About 1kb (and even below!..) per second.

If surfing the web all day and all night, it allows you to use up about 3600kb per hour only...

Thus, only about 86400kb (86.4megs) per 24hrs can be used up during the week.

With only about 22 weekdays in a month, that is a grand total of about 1900800kb (1900.8megs).

The weekend download speed of Openweb's openbrowse/openrouter is:

About 30-39kb per second, at best, on a 384kb line. Let's be generous and say about 39kb/second...

If surfing the web all day and all night, it allows you to use up about 140400kb per hour only...

Thus, only about 3369600kb (3369.6megs) per 24hrs can be used up during the weekends.

With only about 8 weekend days in a month, that is a grand total of about 26956800kb (26956.8megs).

So, assuming you bought the openbrowse package on the 1st and had it working perfectly,
which it seems not to be doing, most of the time...
You would have to download constantly, all weekend, every weekend, all month,
to be able to actually use up the 27gigs!

The frustratingly slow weekdays browsing, constantly, all week, every week,
for the entire month is not even 2gigs...

So, yay!..the openbrowse package is absolutely fantastic...for all those that require no sleep whatsoever,
since no normal person will ever be able to use up the gigs anyway...Businesses cannot dare rely on it...

That is, when, or if it works...or does not freeze your pc...99% cpu use...Broken app...Broken promises...

PS. Keoma, where is the gaming special that was promised, for about R550, in the little advert, when starting openrouter?

+1 . The business model will most likely not be profitable if the average user got more than 30giggs per month. So is openweb making money from consumers that are not fully informed? My problem is with advertising openbrowse as 'openbrowse 512' it leads one to expect that speed. Maybe a legal issue?

had same issue and was tricked into signing three months, and now im never doing business with them ever again, im glad you learned your lesson.

they should have an ajax warning when entering their site, warning: childish terms of service, purposely so that we can steal more money. consultants will contact you as soon as they have reached level 80 on wow, its for the company guys, stop spamming us.

I almost got all 30 gigs each for April and May on Ryder Special with Openweb. If My Telkom line was not down at the last few days of each month. Not sure why the speed is not that good with you guys? Browsing speed is fine during week days.

BTW I am on month to month as I don't want to bind myself into anything as Seacom supposed to be Imminent.
