Hashim Amla

If one were to go through our winning margins when Amla&AB have played, you would see that most of the time we've been winning by 6 or more wickets, and 60 or more runs - half the times by 80 runs - way more than AB'saverage of 50 most of the time.

Amla averages over 56, which means by the time he gets out in the 40th over when batting first, the match was effectively won. Even when chasing, his average suggests even the tailenders would've carried over the line bacuse in most case we won with over 10 overs & 6 wicekts to spare.

So tell me again why isn't AB opening in all formats if he started well - "immediately off the blocks"?

Where the hell does it imply that if AB 'wasnt given the time to get his technique right', he should therefore be an opener??? duh?
Where does it imply that AB batted at 65 right from game 1?

Seriously are you that thick? It is hard for people to debate your trolling if you cannot understand.

Once again I don't understand you. Logically if AB was doing well both when there was a foundation plus when there was none, he would be averaging over 60 now taking into account his incredible purple patch recently. Seeing as Graeme Smith hasn't been doing well, Kallis has been average, QdK has been ok 30% of the time, while JP batted lower than him so he doesn't count; logically then, the only person who has been consistently good enough to lay that foundation is Amla. Which in effect means when Amla has failed AB has failed!

Wasting my time because you wont understand.

a) He is already averaging 65 in last 4000 runs, a figure that is increasing. Amla last 4,000 is 56- not increasing.

b) Your stats linked are averages for both batsmen. Do you know what an average is? It does not indicated that Amla got 56 in every one of those games, so if he didnt then there would be many ocassions when AB came in well before 40th over and scored the necessary runs that Amla didnt. The reality is also that when AB comes in after 40th he is going to 'throw the bat'.

There are a lot of other factors involved, but you seem to think it is just about having a good opener...why bother with all those other batsmen then if Amla can score so well and anyone can capitalise on his foundation. Just pick 6 great bowlers.

Greatest cricketer ever imo is Kallis because of his contribution with bat and ball but I must agree with airwolf... The platform set by amla helps ab reach the heights he does so no amla is no ab. Ab is currently no 1 in odi's so on current form he is the better. Amla is still key to the success of SA in building the innings to allow the likes of ab, miller and co to launch and take games away from the opposition. As far as greatness go can't we just appreciate the fact that we're watching so many talented cricketers who are evolving the game with every innings?

Amla is great now, wasnt always, but everything you say is devalued by the fact that you just want to praise the blacks.

A bit racist no?

Amla is a flat track bully who sucks against the Aussies and can't handle knock out games.

I lol'd

In the end, Hashim Amla should aspire to be as great as this man. Sad to think he says goodbye to Tests in August. He retires from ODIs at the end of Sri Lanka's part in this CWC.

Harsh Baid: "Video game: Cricket WC 2015 Player: Sangakarra Status: Grandmaster level attained"

Commentator: "Sangakkara now has four World Cup tons, leaving him one behind Ponting, and two behind Sachin, on the all-time list"

Ishan Jain: "One may be the hardest hitting batsman in the world..one may play at full 360 degrees around the pitch, but you need to be a class act for scoring 3 tons in World Cup..take a bow Sanga!"

Angelo Matthews: "Sangakkara is in the form of his life. Three hundreds in three games is absolutely amazing. Seems to be getting better with age."

Commentator: "How about a hand for Sangakkara, who became the first batsman in World Cup history to produce three tons on the trot."

Ishan Jain taking a barb at some people there not sure which two from Gayle, Warner, BMac, SteveSmith, AB, Maxwell etc, but I'm guessing. Kohli hasn't totally contaminated his game, but he too should aspire to bat just like Amla&Sanga. Classy batsmen of a truly world class calibre are increasingly becoming extinct.

Amla is not anywhere the same type of batsman as Sangakkara, nor is AB's role as #4 or 5 in a position to accumulate 3 tons in row. He may well have done so on Saturday but the only way they could win that game was for him to play his 360 deg game from where he was coming in and the support he had.
So that is a very poor dig at AB by the commentator in order to praise Sanga, something that is not required because Sanga's performances stand on its own merit.

In the past 12 months alone, Amla has 8 centuries. How on earth does one beat such brilliance and consistency? You can't! Plain&simple! Not even if your name is the great Kumar Sangakkara and you hit a great vein of form. Everyone plays catchup to Hashim Amla!

Yip agree, we need the # to hopefully play the next 4 games to his potential, or the final three at least, then as stats incline we will be in good positions... having a shot at the WC.

One would think 8 centuries in 12 months is out of this world but ... anyway

My bad.

You been highlighting this in half a dozen threads for the best part of the last 4 weeks, didn't think it needed more highlighting... but yes, unlike you it's easy for me give credit where credit is due!

Amla is a run making machine!! A legend of the game!! A total gentleman, humble and modest in both defeat and victory, the perfect role model! Long may he entertain and titillate us with his batting mastery and prowess!
