Will you pay for the accredited installer to fix my set up to be ready for this change you are making?

MultiChoice does not pay for installation-related costs. We recommend that your installation be checked every few years as weather exposure and other factors can influence the quality of your installation and therefore impact your viewing.

Can I not make this change myself, do I have to get an installer out?

Specialised installation instruments are required to ensure an optimal installation and alignment. It is imperative that your dish is aligned and installed using these instruments to ensure the quality of your viewing, as well as your DStv Catch Up and DStv BoxOffice value added services.

whahahahaha, the chops

At first I thought this email was yet another in the ongoing stream of scams we get subjected to every day. I cannot believe that a company can be so arrogant that they threaten to cut off people from their service unless they do XYZ before date ABC.

Well, if I need a good excuse to remove their debit order from my monthly finances they just gave it to me. My XBMC is going to get a lot busier and Afrihost are going to get a lot more bandwidth usage from me from the end of the month.

Total @$$..es

So glad I cancelled 3 months ago.

Netflix and now Futubox for R170 p/m is 100 times better than DSTV !!!

Apparently the channel isn't up and running yet...

FFS, really?.. its all internal stuff and they can't even get that right.

Most of you won't be affected at all. If you however have marginal signal already (due to bad alignment or small dish), your system will fall over during the DVB-S2 switch. This is surely not DStv's fault. They have been recommending 80cm dishes for HD for years and bad alignment is bad alignment. This change is for them to be able to give you more content. At least they are giving you a test channel and a month to prepare, which is better than they've done in the past.

How exactly are they threatening to disconnect you?
If your installation is crap then it won't pick up HD channels, sort it out or don't sort it out, its up to you.
Its like your ISP telling you they are upgrading you to 100 mb/s but you need to make sure your router & cabling can handle it, would you expect the ISP to do that for you?

They've never notified me to tell me that I need a bigger dish.

Smurf is 100% correct. Rescan your HD decoder. If you get the channel, stop bitching, if you don't, it REALLY is not their fault.
