Hi,

Have you insured your smartphone whether its iPhone or any of the others? If you have about how much do you pay for it per month?

I just got the iphone 6 and want to insure it especially due to screen breaks or anything of that source?

Recently got the 64gb 6 plus and insured it, had to pay about R120 more pm (added to my household insurance). It is insured for any damage (water/struck by lightning, accidentally run over by car, etc) and theft, etc.

Outsurance 16G Iphone 6 ... don't even ask the price without sitting down. I'm already considering moving to MTN insurance for a better premium.

Why didnt you buy the phone (through whatever service provider you want) from the istore, take out the extended warranty from the istore inital R800, then if anything happens to phone i.e. screen damage or water damage then for another R800 they replace it no questions asked...

@OP No. I don't see the point of insuring it. I'm not a klutz, and it's unlikely it will get stolen. If it does, it's backed up and I will just buy a new one :)

Nope. Have an ipad 2 and ipad air, not insured.

Had to replace the screen on the ipad 2 recently (cracked and scratched). Saved a little money by not insuring.

Am also very careful with my stuff.

Btw the cracked screen on the ipad2 was from not having the right protective casing. This is rectified, got a proper rubber casing which will protect it when the kids let it fall by accident.

No haven't insured it. I've never insured a mobile device (iPad, cell phones, etc)

This. My phone is with my all the time and I look after it. If I should drop it or something, I will replace it with my money.

iPad isn't insured as well as my old iPhone 5 was never insured, Just look after your stuff and don't do something stupid leaving it on display for someone to take etc.

Note 4 isn't insured now either, but nobody will steal it because you can't get past the pass code screen and it has a heavy duty case.

Only phone I ever insured was my Galaxy Nexus.
Was a waste really. My buddy is now using it and I've moved on to another phone and tablet, both not insured.

Nope.....insurance is there to make insurance companies money - they wouldn't be in the business of insurance if the odds were not in their favour. The odds are steeply in their favour.

Rather take out your own insurance - put the money away in your own account, look after your devices well....and in the unlikely event of something happening, then buy a new one out of your own money.

iPad yes, iPhone no.. Logic being that I travel with both but iPad is often left at hotel. Had insurance on MacBook too but since I leave it at home I dropped insurance.

Yah it's usually +/- 1% the value of the item for mobile electronics from what I can tell. So a R10k item will cost you R100/mo.

Personally I think it's a HUGE insurance scam as they refuse to insure a notebook with household insurance albeit the notebook never leaves the premises (ie no theft, water etc cover) which is just stupid. Someone should take this up.. Mobility insurance is completely different so I don't understand why insurance companies are allowed to separate household goods from computer equipment selectively especially for theft (damage I can take on risk)
