That article reads like hot air. I was expecting substance and got absolutely nothing.

Feel better soon!

That is somewhat better than the Daily maverick article.

I have seen complaints about false advertising on the reviews. On the personal information being misused, I can see that happening also- after all, we are talking about a Chinese company here.

The reviews definitely look suspect to me, but in saying that the two items I received are exactly as described and I'm very happy with it.

About as real as takealot, see how many negative reviews they do actually publish.

Ordered a few times.... no problems. Can not work out the tax?
Do you pay custom duties on the full price or discounted price?

on the discounted price

I wonder if we're not supposed to pay tax on what the shipping should have been - normally one pays tax on free stuff as well (gifts) AFAIK

So, where SARS states - value of goods , value is determined by price paid? On my orders, the more the "discount" the higher the tax? Anyway, will still use Temu and Wish.

Just paid a tax of R69.34 on the bill of R407 today.

I ordered on 18 march , total was R200 + customs R60 , only arrived on monday. 1 day before the deadline so didnt get the credit.

3rd order in
1x Handle bar for mountain bike
10 piece cable holders
3x Led motion sensor lights

These import duties are bloody irritating! I guess my luck has run out, I just paid R105.80 on a R309 purchase.

It's as if they are making up the difference of the last purchase.

Will see on my last purchase what the bill will be on the R322 purchase.

I have no idea what I did with the last purchase.

But how do I pay the tax on the buffalo website? I remember the last time it was just a few clicks, but I've been clicking everywhere now and nothing is happening.

edit: okay solved

The Buffalo email asking you to pay tax has a FAQ on it.
There is also a list of the items you bought which categorizes them.
This list will be used by customs to determine the tax.

You can find a word document on sars that explains it.

[Third party] Delivery on a Sunday... they must be backlogged.

It's an East Asian website. If you look at Korean, Japanese and Taiwanese websites they are very cluttered. Those people like like that for some reason.

Once you know how the thing works it's pretty easy.
