Its because if we got what we paid for then our providers wouldnt make so much money.

go figure. how naive of me to think that you should actually get something you pay good money for. imagine it worked like this in pick n pay... "no, unfortunately you can only have 3/4 of that tin of baked beans"

Was sitting here wondering if there was any particular reason why bandwidth (in any broadband situation) never accumulates. I mean, surely one should get what one pays for?

Because you have been brainwashed into believing the world Telkom has been drawing across your eyes making you believe that bandwidth is a commodity and expensive. Hence your question. There are various threads on the forum which highlight the low usage of the SAT3 cable and that its a case of use it or lose it. Once you realise that, there is nothing to accumulate. Take the red pill and see how far the rabbit hole goes.

Here's a good idea:

I'm gonna start a petrol service where people pay a fixed amount per month for a (very) limited amount of fuel... and at the end of the month we syphon whatever's left in your tank out again... ... and if you run your tank completely dry I'll call you names like "petrol abuser" :p

LOL, remind me not to buy petrol from you, and in case I make the mistake of doing so, and catch you petrol-handed stealing from my car's tank, then I will be forced to lay charges of theft at a SAPS shop.

The difference with capped-data is that it's like Scotch mist - you know it exists but you just cannot lay your hands on it, but I do agree that data needs to rollover indefinitely until completely used up :).

Dude free thinkers like you got shot... think like Luther King Jnr... such scandalous ideas as BANDWIDTH CARRY OVER will get the censorship board on your ass... like you actually get what u pay for in this country? come on. Vodacom makes Billions every year by ripping us off methodically and very subtley. Telkom cant do without its cash cow (vodacom)....

and if you do end up running the tank dry, then you can sell them petrol at R50 per litre...

Hi all :)

When the new Vodacom pricing structure was first announced, Vodacom were going to upgrade all data bundles to the next highest in size but only where it would now cost less. Then after some customer feedback they changed their mind and instead all packages will now be same size as before only much cheaper than before.

Only one thing has been completely ignored - rollover. This after numerous customers had asked for it during the interim period from MTN's data special announcement to Vodacom's new pricing announcement. In this period the news section on Mybroadband had also speculated on whether Vodacom would come through on this issue.

IMO Vodacom seems to have selective hearing when it comes to customer feedback.

One other issue raised by V3G was that the focus of the price changes were on the 500MB, 1GB, and 2GB packages because they were the most popular among its customers. IMO the very reason the smaller packages were not as popular in the first place was because Vodacom's pricing was not as competitive or accessible as MTN's prepaid data bundles or Virgins flat rate data pricing. Vodacom having focused their pricing on the bigger users have failed to tap into the smaller user market. Smaller usage per person per month - yes, but far more users than in the 500MB or more per month category.

From the general feedback I get from my colleagues at work, their children are using Virgin for MXit because of the fact that they are 4 times cheaper than the other networks prepaid data rate.

Just my feedback for the powers that be at Vodacom:D

How much bandwidth could you possibly use on Mxit anyway? A couple of megs a month at the most?

That's where the economies of scale come into play. Eg 5MB per user per month X 1 million MXIT users = 5 million MB = 5000GB. Even at 50c a MB thats R2.5million. Which would you rather have R0 or R2.5 million? Also children are not just using their airtime on MXIT. They make calls and send smss too. So other revenue will be boosted as well. Average spend per child per month is R30 upwards depending on who your parents are.

Also data usage can be boosted by promoting cellphone email services.

Just read Vodacom's complaint about MTN's HSDPA advertising. Isn't it ironic that Vodacom complained that MTN's advertising was misleading with regards to cheaper pricing on bigger bundles because consumers didn't finish the bundles? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black

Where did you see this? :)

Just saw it.....:o

Yeah, will there ever be rollover? Or how about just keeping whatever is left instead of resetting it which is what is really happening here. Also multiple bundle purchases would be welcome and will make multiple sim cards redundant.

Any bundles are a rip off - I vote for a flat rate of X c/mb (insert reasonable amount NOT R2.00 p/mb which is a rip off). I like my virgin card for when I am away from home.
