My HD PVR is giving me the zigs. Whenever there is a thunderstorm anywhere nearby, half the channels are fine but the other half the screen goes crazy an eventually freezes up; then I get a message saying that my set-top box is not connected properly. I have replaced the LNB on the dish and replaced all the wiring between the dish and the PVR an I even got a replacement PVR from multichoice but it is still the same, half the channels are OK, the other half not. Any ideas please folks?

Your LNB is probably not aligned perfectly causing either vertical or horizontal channels to be affected, could also be something obstructing the line like a tree

Thanks for replying SmurfAteFrog, there are no trees in line of sight of the dish, how do I align the LNB? I marked where the old one was before removing it and put the new one in the same orientation. The old one was installed by a DSTV installer.

Cost me R150 as a pensioner for the techie to align my dish. The meter that's needed is fairly expensive cheaper to get a techie. I also installed my own.

My boet has a sat meter. Cost him £300 in England. He says just check the signal strength on channel 101. It must be at least 98% and quality between 95% and 100%. If it less it can be alignment, or a corroded connector

Many thanks to all, I will do as your boet suggests Louise with a friend to yell when the signal is on target.

Here's a thank-you present:
