Can those with HD PVR's please let me know what kind of problems or annoying issues they're experiencing.

Thus far on my side....

Frequently after it has gone into standby mode or if you switch it off via remote and it goes into standby mode, when you come back and 'power on' it just shows a black screen. The display is black on the tv and decoder, it wont respond to anything. Only way to get back online is by pulling out the power.
Now becos it has a built in hard drive, this is never a good idea but one is forced to !

Secondly, at times once cannot change channels. You can scroll, you can read "info" do eerything else besides actually changing to a different channel. Again this is solved by pulling the power and rebooting.

eish !
:(

I am having the exact same problem. and this is after I've swopped it for a new one ...

The standby mode issue is a known bug - set it to 'never' under settings. Read the forum on dstv.com.

Thanx, but surely this is not good for the hard drive?

Don't pull the cable.

If you press the power button & the button next to it together then it also resets. (buttons on decoder, not remote).

Had the screen goes blank issue with an old decoder. New one appears fine. Both non-PVR though.

Probably not but taking crap from your PVR is not good for your sanity. Anyway this will only have a negative effect on the HDD over an extended period. When the new software is released then the bug will be fixed.

Does anyone know why you need a 4 way multi switch for the HD PVR?
I have one cable that is plugged into Satelite input 1 and it works fine....

Have you tried recording? Are you able to record 2 at the same time? Is your EPG working? Are you receiving ALL channels or just SOME?

I am able to record 2 at the same time yes.
EPG?
All the channels I normally watch I can see, is there any specific channels I can quickly test?

Weird because AFAIK tuner 2 and 3 are used for recording.

EPG - Electronic Programme Guide

Try Animal Plant, FTV and Crime & Investigations Network.

Yes I can see all 3 channels.
Where do I find the EPG?

Is the EPG Guide the TV Guide with the Favourite Channels, All Channels and Playlist?

Single cable LNB

You most likely have a SatCR LNB which allows you to use just one cable into tuner one input, but provides all the required data for the other three tuners.

Anyone had the decoder freezing during the night and then when resetting all i get is a black screen, all the guide/menu buttons etc work but no picture or sound. I tried resetting it a few times & nothing :(

and yes i had it set on never for standby, looks like i have to make a 2nd trip to Umhlanga!

Is there ANY way to get the decoder working with a TV that does not support HDCP? We have a HDMI-DVI converter, but when we connect this to a 42" plasma which doesn't have the HDMI port, the decoder won't send the signal to it and shows 'HDCP' on the front.

I realize even if we get this to work, the picture won't be as good as it should be with 720p, but any improvement at all would be a bonus.

Just check out the hdtv forum on dstv.co.za . There is a lady asking the same question, and you can buy a device, they do mention the site, unfortunately sitting at work I cannot get the url

I normally just change channels and then it seems to come right.

endless problems

where to start...
my channel numbers suddenly started to get scrambled. upon phoning multichoice i was informed that they could not help me - had to have the hd dept phone me back in 1 hr. they phoned me back in 2 days time.... after unplugging power and sat cables numerous times i was informed the installation was faulty and had to contact installer.

installer tested installation and verified everything as ok.

called again and they had me plug in just cable 1 and 4. everything was fine.
recaord all and view epg. then two days go the time on the pvr was wrong, i couldnt access mnet hd and had to enter a pin when i changed channels.

phoned multichoice again and when they eventually phoned me again, we undid all cables again several times. then my hd locked up and didnt want to do anything after all the cable shifting, i was informed that the installation was faulty and told to call my installer.

after multichoice put the phone down i reconnected the cables as they were before i was told to swop them, and the pvr worked!!!! strange for a faulty installation to do that...

i think stv's helpdesk personnel are the most incompetent i have ever seen. when they can't help you, they send you to the installer, even though the installation is ok.
