My mom seems to be interested in it to record her favourite programs. I already have a twin lnb setup already so just need to find out if there is any good deals on the PVR decoder and which PVR decoders are the best.

I see there is a special oversees pace one for R1500 and a normal DSTV one with the Walka (which apparently doesn't work in PMB not sure how true that is) for R1299.

You can search on Guzzle there are a few specials:

http://www.guzzle.co.za/specials/search/?q=hd+pvr

The Walka only works where there is signal for it its not a Satellite receiver.

If you want a normal HDPVR get the Pace 2P model, normal price is R1 500, you can check for specials which might save R100 / R200.
You can always sell the Walka if you get that special.
There is no DSTV mobile coverage in PMB http://www.dstvmobile.com/south-africa/coverage-map-2/

Thanks least I know he wasn't lying about the coverage and he did recommend the pace PVR one.

Maybe I can haggle the price down since they happy to drop other product prices :p.

So what makes the Pace PVR better than the Dstv one and do I need a splitter to connect my LNB to it?

DSTV have 2 decoder suppliers, UEC & Pace. Nothing really wrong with the UEC ones but the Pace one is just better ;)
Nope, the 2 cables from the twin LNB plug directly into the PVR
What decoder do you have now? You can maybe use it for Xtraview (then you will need a multiswitch though) 1110, 1131 & 1132 are compatible

I've had all models. The new Xplora is by far the best. Just close your eyes, buy it and thank me later.

Got the 1131 here and I don't have both cables in the same room one goes to another room so that will be a problem :p

If I had 2.5k I would have thought of going for it
