HD4850 Under Performing?

Ya i don't know what was so controversial about that..
Ya I also don't know what the hell is "starting" either..

Put the VF1000 on it, for crud's sake, why did you buy it otherwise!?
NOTHING is going to go poof, take your time, put it on properly and it's safer than having the original on!! Sheesh.

There is nothing wrong with your ram, budget ram performs virtually identically to "high" performance ram..

If ANYthing is a bottleneck it's your CPU! So OC it to 3GHz, it's piss.

Other than that, defrag, or re-install if you have the energy..

The flashing colours sounds more like a software issue to me. I'd start by formatting the PC, putting XP on it and seeing if that makes a difference. If it doesn't, then just return the card cause then its probably a dud card. e.g. Bad RAM on the card could cause such a flashing effect.

Did you install the DirectX that came with Crysis? Rip or legit?

What does legit mean?

Damn could I possibly have made it more clear

Ok you guys, hehe, you're lank funny.. Excuse me while I piss myself due to your masterful comedic skill!! :)

Fine, that's cool, make assumptions about what I think, it's only super lame.

Yes you are an idiot if you can't put it on correctly.

Which one would less likely to damage the core if the fan were to stop? Stock or the rather large Zalman with heatpipes and lots of cooling fins?

ROFL you guys, so cool.

the zalman if its not fitted right it could short the entire board causing major fire to an entire block or city

i mean talking about fires that we have not seen since the 1800 french fire that cleared 72 blocks

be careful out there chaps!!!!!!!!

Ah one of those types

If putting on the cooler doesn't fix the problem and the problem is a fault with the card then what MrE?

that why i suggest a fan alan, blow loads of cool air into the box, even the stock cooler with this setup will cool the card

better than tearing it apart fitting a zalman only to find its a stuffed card

Then u take off the Zalman and put the original back on smartypants.
Ooooooh complicated huh!

Ok cool I'm all too happy to be one of "those types"! What, enough intelligence to perform a simple task like attaching a cooler to a pc component!? Sweeet, thanks for the compliment! :)

Haha.. that is quite original I must admit..

If someone can't fit a 3rd party cooler correctly, then they deserve to die in a fire. Ok a bit of an exagerration, but seriously, you've gotta be extremely dim-witted to stuff it up. Trouble with connect-the-dots pictures much!? ;)

lols this thread is legendary... The copy is legit however cracked so that I can be lazy and not have to change the CD in every time... (yea yea i know...) Ill uninstall the crack and play off the disc to see if it makes a difference.

I just ran down to the I-Corruption next to my work and got a new fan for my window... will install that when I get home. The VF1000 I cant install at the moment because I dont have another heatsink for the right side of the card... and I dont feel like taking a power tool to the origional and cutting off the stock heatsink... which looks like cr@p anyways.

Will Also do a defrag tonight (which btw i think has a completely kuk interface in vista :)) Dont get me wrong I still do Defrag every 3-4 weeks depending on how much i have installed on my PC.

Those BETA drivers are cr@p in vista... i have seen them on a friends PC and the CCC wouldnt even open... ill wait a few months for that to be released officially... saves me bandwith from having to download very similar things more than once.

Thanks for the help so far all.

i do have a VF1000 in my cupboard... could install that however im scared of voiding the warrentee if it were to mysteriously go poof overnight...

hmmm... something is wrong here and I don't think it's overheating. I read these cards can handle up 120 degrees before things start blowing.

Now, i think maybe you should send the card back so the can test it, coz if you haven't done anything to the card, then it's on the place you bought it to check if the card is faulty, and if so, then the place you bought it must send it back and replace your card.

but just check in CCC if you maybe turned on AA and AF
