HD4850 Under Performing?

hmmm... something is wrong here and I don't think it's overheating. I read these cards can handle up 120 degrees before things start blowing.

Now, i think maybe you should send the card back so the can test it, coz if you haven't done anything to the card, then it's on the place you bought it to check if the card is faulty, and if so, then the place you bought it must send it back and replace your card.

but just check in CCC if you maybe turned on AA and AF

THAT my friend is a GREAT idea... neer thought of checking the AA and AF in the CCC... will keep you all posted

@Zulash, my advice; Take everyone's opinion (including my own) with a pitch of salt.

If I were you, I 'd keep the stock cooler until your warranty runs out. If it's only Crysis, then the problem lies elsewhere and not overheating. Try reinstalling drivers, removing crackz etc

I suggest you:1) uninstall your video drivers, 2)reboot into safe mode, 3)run Driver sweeper to remove any ati display drivers (and nvidia, if your previous card was a nvidia card). 4)reboot normally, 5)install latest catalyst drivers.

far as i could tell, dx10 is slower than all dx9 games on my box - in that regard if you want to have slow games then go with vista.

i could be wrong though or just my opinion.

the betas didn't go smooth install in my side either in xp 64, but i sweeped it clean. and install only the driver part via update display when i was in vga mode. then rebooted and installed the ccc separately which after that worked 100%.

that way round with the 8.7 beta, everything was just better.

Dunno, but I find that after SP1 on Vista x64, it was a fair bit faster in Crysis (dx10), than it was on an XP x386 install (dx9).

All my games run very smooth, so no complaints from me.
:)

I quickly ran crysis last weekend in vista 64bit, and the performance wasn't much different than XP (although I didn't check fps) which was quite surprising since I expected worse performance :)
Will have to confirm with benchies though

should be next to no difference

unless your running crysis in dx 10 mode, should be a huge drop in performance

run it in dx 9 mode on vista should be almost identical to xp

owell must be the water then that makes me think its faster in xp 64 vs vista 64 :D

obviously what i was referring too

DX10 vs DX9 not dx9 vista vs dx9 xp

Problem Solved :D I was a dumb@ss when I first recieved my card and put all the 3D settings in the CCC on Quality instead of Application Controlled :) so basically I was trying to play crysis with full AA - AF ect ect..... lol...

Running smoothly (30-40fps dropped once or twice to about 5fps when loading new areas though) in DX10 all high settings @ 1280x1024.... Also installed a new case fan which is venting right on my card - dropped temps by about 12 degrees celcius which is a nice bonus.

Also removing the crack fixed game crashes and the weird candy land clouds :)

The fsking case fan is LOUD as HELL... going to open a new thread on this... frustrating me
