ATI Radeon HD 5970 - we know the date

Our foreign sources of AMD has informed us on the unofficial plan / date of the newest and most powerful graphics cards from AMD / ATi with kernel Hemlock XT. First in the world so we can inform you of the date of issue, which is a new ATI Radeon HD 5970 set at November 16!

I hope this is true, can't wait :D Rumoured to be anything from 12" to 13.5" in length, though

This means that there will be two separate GPU cores clocked at 750 MHz, 2x 1600 Stream Processors, 2x 256-Bit Bus Widths (512-Bit Total), 2x Memory Sizes of 1024 MB with 1000 MHz clocks (4000 MHz effective), with support for DirectX 11 and Shader Model 5.0. Price hasn’t been announced, although due to stock shortages because of problems with TSMC and lack of competition, it could come in around $500+.

They're also hinting at the possibility of a launch on the 16th.

No point at the moment, cant even get stock of the 5850 and 5870 for more than 5min

whaat... AMD/ATI is looking like that really want to take Nvidia by the throat... I wonder if AMD/ATI has planned another chip just encase Nvidia's Fermi is a monster.... No wait, Nvidia =late Feb/mid March, so AMD are probably gonna do a price drop to make the market more hostile for Nvidia

AMD is rocking the boat at this stage, if only their CPU's could do the same to the i7..

thats what i think they will do as well, maybe launch an X2 card as well to try keep the performance crown.

The HD5970 is actually a HD5870x2, only with lower clocks (I'm guessing they want head room for an HD5990(wow, that's quite a nice name to say))

Fortunately I make my decisions based on performance, not some kind of misplaced loyalty :D

well, this is very true... and it should be the dominant factor, but alas, fanboi-ism rules supreme.

Yup. We're going to see from around R6700-R7500 easy. No matter, 5870's will drop which makes me smile. :D

Don't count on it :)

Looks like it's gonna be a good card, basically two 5870s squashed onto one pcb.

this will take the performance crown from gtx295. But availabilty of 5800 series is so bad, its as good as a paper launch. If ATi doesn't get enough GPUs to sell regular* 5870s they are unlikely to take two of them for one SKU en mass regardless of margins. Having said that this card in 4-way cfx will rule the world :D

GT300 is only out January 2... (not feb) will likely be slower than 5970 and 5950 for that matter. Doesn't matter much as X2 version will be available much much later probably with 32nm node shrink or 28nm which will come maybe 2011. So NVIDIA is out for the running of fastest graphics card for a while
