HDTV Choice

Please read the OP - the purpose of the TV is Xbox and sport.

If you take the time to read my posts, you would understand I maintain that there is much less of a difference when hooking up HD sources/Xbox/etc. to either LCD, LED or plasma. This creates a problem where you base testing solely on a source that does not differ much on HD TVs, hence the tone of my previous post...

The fact that plasma is best for SD TV/sport means it would naturally be plasma's strongest selling point. And the OP did say TV/sport.

But not necessarily SD sport (not to create more conflict... just pointing it out).

Maybe zakdoc89 isn't as stupid as to just blindly accept what the salesmen say.. or did you just blindly gloss over the fact that he actually TESTED the set?

I also fail to understand why you base your choice of an HD WS set on how well it displays SD TV/SD Sport... I very rarely watch any of those channels anymore since I got my 42" LCD and DStvHD

Sorry, made an edit and reposted.

HD PVR SSHD channels could never cover all good sport. It's inevitable there would be SD sport. :D

P.S. I hope you aren't hinting that HD sport is good on a 50Hz LCD which costs the same as a much faster "response time" plasma?

No, I'm not. Just wanting the facts straight for future googlers that will come across this thread.

Facts like what, LCDs being better for "graphics and animation overlayed on top of video sequences (as in adverts, etc)"?

Doubt there would be many of those kinds when Googling.

Do you watch SD TV & SD/HD sport, sn3rd? What would you buy for R6000 based on picture quality for those purposes?

It was merely an example, sheesh. The point is that in this range (and significantly above aswell, actually), a sharper picture is obtained with an LCD.

If picture quality is of utmost concern, a CCFL-backlit or LED-backlit LCD would be my choice. If picture SIZE is of any concern, then the plasma would be the clear choice.

You didn't answer my question.

After going to dozens of shops to compared LED, back light LCD and plasma TVs. And reading tons of reviews on the internet I can tell you this. SD looks crap on LCD. period.

Let's simplify it :

Let's assume there are 10 catagories that 'make' picture quality better. What we're saying is LCD is ahead in 4-6 of these catagories (range depending) and plasma is ahead in 4-6 catagories (range depending)

Is that not simple enough?
Is it not fair and accurate?

Except plasma's "4 - 6 categories" are ones most relevant to picture quality, especially for TV/sport.

About the only relevant "category" LCD wins in is brightness. I don't see people recommending plasma for bright rooms.

These are facts. Is that not simple enough?

Just wanted to say, my family just purchased the 32" Sansui full hd LCD LED jobbie, from Hi-Fi corp. Ive never loved a TV so much, in my opinion everything looks great on it, including the blacks, there is hardly any motion blur, and this is all running from a SD signal. Oh and gaming from my HD rig looks great :) Just my two cents :)

Can you not just agree that LCD is better in certain catagories?

Just say 'yes' and end it now?

"hardly any motion blur" - heard that a few times. ;) Any non-100+Hz LCD will have motion blur problems with sport. With plasma at the same price, it'd be "there is no motion blur".

Anyway, enjoy the TV. I'm guessing you upgraded from CRT TV. Always a great upgrade. :)

I just did (brightness).

Except the categories plasma wins in are more important in terms of picture quality, especially TV/sport, like black levels, colour accuracy, motion, etc.

Can you not just read my posts where I have said yes to LCD winning some categories already so that you stop bringing up the same carp over and over? Sheesh.

I just battle to understand your logic ... it really is strange.

I'm not surprised - you battled to understand JUGGY's logic here as well... :D

Could not care less about "converting" you. The amount of forumites recently purchasing and promoting plasma is proof enough.

Carry on comparing your double the price LCD with your 5 year old old generation plasma...

I did - but we sorted it out. It was a matter of opinion and we obviously use forums differently.

If I ask about 20" wheels on a car, I welcome people telling me tyres will cost me double, I'll get speedo error and letting me know any other pitfalls I may have missed during my Google search. Likewise, if I create a thread about wireless speakers, I'd welcome people tell me they're not fully wireless, interference and distance may be an issue or sound quality efected. I've been saved a few times by creating threads and people have told me something vital that I missed. Others - like Juggy - prefer a different approach.

No need to convert me - I did have a 42" plasma and owned it for 2 years. This was a November 2007 and the LCD was a November 2009 - only 2 years differences actually. I've had first hand experience with both - Blu Ray, SD, HD, PS3, Xbox, PC, DVD, DVD upscaled and whatever else.

Forgive me if my experience counts more than your (often incorrect) assumptions and Google links.

Oh - and the reason that I do reply to threads is generally when I feel you've given either incorrect or misleading information. I understand you recommend plasma at every given chance - but for someone to recommend plasma for PC and static images?

I'll rather jump in and correct that.
