HDTV Choice

Who cares what the sodding shape of the pixel is? Its still a 4:3 native resolution, therefore there WILL be detail loss...

... and you just say that because you get that "feeling"? ... yeah movie houses had no clue what they were doing when they came up with Anamorphic Widescreen ...??

Go view a 42" 1024x768 next to a 42" 1920x1080 from a normal viewing distance. You will not see a difference in detail when watching a HD source. I have done it and many reviewers have done it. You don't buy a TV to look at the spec sheet on the side of the box ... you buy it to watch real life content and for that, the above mentioned 42" is going to give much more bang-for-buck than the 32".

I didn't say 1080p came into the argument at all?

You seem to think I'm pro-LCD and anti-plasma? Not sure where you got that from.

Perhaps because you would take a entry-mid range 50hz 32" LCD for <720p TV/sport over plasma?

Amazing how so many people take plasma for TV/sport. Seems they need to get their eyes checked.

Petty indeed. From viewing distance there is no difference.

I've always thought rectangle pixels were a negative ...

That's what I said...

Quite possibly, but in my opinion keeping visuals in their native aspect ration without having to do any processing is infinitely more desirable.... Call me a purist in the way my images are displayed....

And yes, you buy a tv based on how it displays real life content and such.. but the spec sheets do come into play for me.... its a combination of both for me.

Why? Anamorphic Widescreen is based on that concept. Most 42" HD Ready screens have a physical aspect ratio of 16:9, but a pixel aspect ratio of 4:3.

Any Widescreen movie look perfectly normal on those screens ... in fact I have not come accross anybody who could spot the difference between 1024x768 and a 1080 native at 42".

OK, your opinion then ... the engineers at Panasonic, Samsung, LG etc had a different opinion ...

No no, you bought a Sinotec ... I will not call you a "Purist"  ... just kidding.

Ahhh but my Sinotech is at least a 1-1 pixel mapping :D

But yes, this is all based on opinion, even Postmans little rant about Plasma being better than LCD.... its opinion...

Actually it's not opinion. It is a fact that it's better for TV/sport. Doh!

No, its not a fact...

You have been shown this many times that there are LCD's that are better than Plasma's....

Aren't many of these engineers out of a job now? ;)

Rumour has it by end 2011 there'll be only 2 makers left

No, its not a fact...

And I've never denied that.

Do you see me comparing specific models? No.

It's about the technology as a whole. Plasma as a technology > LCD for TV/sport. Finished and klaar.

Postman is allowed to exclude certain models, reviews and tests at his discretion.

He says blacks are better on plasma - I show him he's incorrect ... and we magically exclude that LCD model and talk about general.
He says motion/pong is far superior on plasma - I show him he's incorrect ... and we magically exclude that model LCD and talk about general
He says gaming is far superior on plasma - I show him he's incorrect ... and then he mentions price, range etc and any LCD beyond a certain price (which he decides) is excluded

See?

It's unreal! I know how he attempts to debate before he even starts!

Saying blacks on plasma are better does not mean every plasma will be better at black levels than every LCD.

You're being daft again. Really painful trying to get the picture to you.

Saying blacks on plasma are better does not mean every plasma will be better at black levels than every LCD

But saying that xyz is superior on a plasma means that every LCD is inferior?

Logic Fail.

Never said that. Again, I am not comparing specific sets, I am talking about the pros and cons of each technology in general.

Fail at understanding something so simple.

Anyway. Couldn't care less about what you have to say right now.

Only one is best for TV/sport, that's a certainty.

Sorry.. I tend to agree with Dolby on this one..

You HAVE to compare sets because you don't buy a general technology, you buy a specific set that implements a technology in a certain way.
