HDTV Choice

My 'thing' has always been that LCD isn't nearly as bad as people (read : Postman) try make out.

Um. Have you read my posts?

Yes, entry-mid range 50Hz LCD for TV/SPORT is VERY BAD.

I have never said LCD is bad for other sources like console/PC/F/HD movies.

OMG dude.

I even say that entry level LCDs are decent for gaming!

Fsck.

Why must I own a LCD in order to give fair judgement?

Is there something wrong with the LCDs in shops and at my friends' houses?

I would never want an LCD. It's a FACT that plasma is better for TV/SPORT which is my purpose!

True. I saw this for myself this weekend in a store that had a 42" Philips LCD placed next to a Samsung Plasma of the same siza. The motion on the plasma is as real as reality gets and the glossy screen on the plasma delivers softer, deeper and more natural colours.

Lies! ALL LIES!

:D:D

I've read your posts ; I always get a chuckle out of seeing a person pretend they know what they're talking about

So me, JUGGY, mercurial, TYR, Wasp, Fox1 and the countless others that have bought plasma don't know what they're talking about.

ummm I see Game has on special a 42" plasma HD ready screen for R5999

Its an LG though.

They'll have the Samsung too.

Get the Samsung, not the LG.

Remember if you find it cheaper Game will discount their price by 10% of the difference in price.

Nothing wrong with LG ... You will probably not see any diff between that and the Sammy C430 ... Try and see if there is a noticeable difference between their black levels ... else just go for cheapest or the one with the most pleasing aesthetics.

Most people acknowledge good and bad of each panel.

You see no negatives of plasma and no pros of LCD.

One thing to keep in mind with LG (might not be of any concern to you): They don't have bloody discrete IR codes for the different inputs, very annoying if you have a universal remote that can run macro's.

I would go with the Samsung based on the amount of online information and love for it.

Oh. My. God.

So much for the hours I put into explaining about negatives of plasma in bright rooms and image retention.

You just don't see anything at all!

Gonna take a drive to Canal walk tonight and see if game has stock, and audio vision... anywhere else I should check?

Makro? (same price as game???)

No, just you...

You compare the quoted "600 Hz" of plasma to the "100 Hz" of LCD, as if they're comparable specifications. You talk about response time as if it's a comparable specification. You talk about motion blur as if it is not at all influenced by viewing distance.

I am neither pro-LCD nor pro-plasma. I recognise that both have pros and cons, and I would buy either, depending on the situation.

Response Time 0.0001ms
Response Time 0.0001ms
It's hard to beat the speed of light. That's how fast our plasma screens respond to each new image. 0.001ms is all it takes for each pixel to re-generate clear, crisp, robust colours. That's why there's no blur or ghosting in the picture. And there's less strain on your eyes. You can't beat that.

600Hz subfield Motion
600Hz subfield Motion
Ever notice how with plasma screens, motions can get a little jerky? Unless you happen to be looking at one of Samsung's new plasma TVs. Every frame is seamlessly smooth because we put 10 full subfields into each frame. That's 600Hz. So contours are crisper, scrolling text sharper and the juddering issue is finally put to rest.

Knew you would love the marketing gimmick.

:D

I really could not care about technical specs comparison and your problems with it... All I care about is which is best for TV/sport because that is my purpose.

sn3rd, Dolby:

Let's put our money where our mouths are.

I bet you both that HTC_guy will walk out of Game tonight favouring 42" Series 4 plasma over Series 5/EX400 LCD for TV/sport.

You both, or at least sn3rd, say that he will walk out favouring Series 5 LCD? Am I correct?

:D
