Headunit for S2000? What to get

http://www.autostyle.co.za/prodview.php?prod_id=18245

Looks good...
Why do you want the USB at the back? What if you want to add a song?

I would get something with a front USB port. That way you just keep a couple of flashsticks around.

Reason nr 1. - I think it'll be neater to run a USB cable somewhere out of sight, like the pocket for the car manual.

Reason nr 2. - If you look at the S2000 front console, the radio is hidden by a radio door, if I have a front usb port, the radio door will have to be open the whole time... getting in the way, and making the radio visible to outside eyes.. You don't know how many security guards are shocked at the 'sports car' with no radio :p

well generally u would be paying a premium for alpine hu, but then again if i had the cash alpine would be my 1st choice

I do like that one, but its like one of the reviews said - you're paying more for less....

huh?

It's like the difference between Platinum and Gold or Diamonds and Sekonias...

Since you love your S2000 so much there is only 2 choices, 1 you don't get in SA no more. So Alphine is the obvious choice.

Blaupunkt I heard was thinking of starting out in SA again, anyone seen any of their products here?

You misunderstood - your paying more for an Alpine model with no CD than you would for a Alpine model with the same specs with a CD :p

I suppose if I don't plan on using the CD it doesn't really make a difference :p

I'd also like a red one - I see they come with different colour faces - not sure if autostyle will guarantee me a red face - it'll go with the car's dash colours.

o dam, missed that, never saw the lack of cd player
but if u gonna hook a hdd there is no need really

I am quite keen to hear how any HU will work with the s2000 remote controls. Have you got a harness/converter for those controls?

Cool, but then shouldn't you be limiting the HU choices to be compatible with the DCI?

Nah - thats just one version - there's a company that makes one for just about every decent head-unit manufacturer.

There's also a local guy in Jhb. that'l custom make one apparently.

I know its not Alphine :p But I can get this for R1,500

Opinions? Bare in mind the head unit is actually hidden from view.

I like that it has sound shaping - something missing from the Alpine.

nice clarion, but no usb support
so i will say go with the pioneer
else it would be whichever one suits the car more, i dont like aftermarket hu that stand out too much

A bit worried about the knob on the Pioneer - scared the radio door won't close... need to do some homework on that.

Awesome head unit, I have one. Looks smart, minimal buttons, lots of settings. The rear USB is routed to my cubby hole, very convenient. I would hate it if I had a front USB and the flash drive got knocked - could break the flash drive and the head unit. :o

which store you getting this from? those are quite decent prices
might be in the market for in the new future

Cool - quick questions
1.) Does the unit flap down when you turn the car off
2.) How far does the knob stand out?

Both questions are related to my radio door :p

It does not automatically flip down when you turn the car off. You have to press the release button.
