The caterers at my work brought out a healthy balanced food option on their menu - thinking about complaining.
This does not seem healthy/balanced. [I am posting here to see whether I am just being difficult]

Well there are 1 or 2 healthy options amongst other not so healthy ones

Please don't get me wrong - I love my works canteen and the fact that we have a wide variety of food each day is great - I am just against false advertising.

Please note portion sizes are large.

Beef Teriyaki R25.00
Baked Lemon & Herb Crusted Hakev with Veg & Starch R25.00
Chicken Cacciatore Served witb Rice & Veg R25.00
Chicken, Feta & Spinach Lasagne Served with Green salad R25.00
Chicken Pot Pie Served with Green Salad R25.00
Tuna Lasagne Served with Green Salad R25.00
Roast chicken , Starch and Veg R25.00
Beef Breyani R25.00
Lemon & Herb Roasted Chicken with Veg & Starch R25.00
Fried Hake Served with Starch & Veg R25.00
Savoury Spiced Chicken Rice R25.00
Chicken Stir Fry R25.00
Chicken, Broccoli & Cauliflower Bake R25.00
Chicken A La King with Parsley Rice R25.00
Chicken in Yoghurt Garlic Sauce with Veg & Starch R25.00
Chicken Strip Pita with Salad & Chips R25.00

Maybe the healthy foods were just prepared without the excessive use of oils and butter and other fats.

Our menu would have a similar look to it, but increase the price by R10 to R15 and half the portions.

Again please don't misinterpret this post -
I realise I am lucky to have nice meals at good prices

The debate is purely whether their "Healthy Balanced Campaign"
Is indeed healthy and balanced

It's relative. It is healthy compared to eating take away burgers and chips :)

Looks pretty healthy and balanced. Provided that the preparation is healthy (no bad fats), that the "veg" included isn't just more potatoes (or heavily proccessed/cooked veg like creamed spinach that has lost almost all its nutrients), and that the salad is more than 3 leaves of lettuce and 2 slices of tomato.

You're lucky to have a menu like that available at that price! Enjoy it :p

I don't see any healthy meal there.

All our canteen food tastes like....cardboard. No spices used AT ALL.

I was expecting to see bacon on bacon with side orders of bacon with that title. All of those look *relatively* healthy - compared to pies, slap chips, russian or boerwors rolls, hamburgers etc.

I think your definition of healthy/balanced is a bit off.

All of those meals, if cooked from scratch without any added preservatives or excessive use of oil or use of processed foods, are balanced and healthy.

Making Assumptions is generally a bad habit, rather ask questions

In this post you assumed:

1: My definition of healthy/balanced is a bit off.
2: They don't use preservatives/excess oil/ processed food

And you completely left out the possibilty of oversized portions/ portion variables between starch/vegetable and meat

We have Macaroni/Cheese, Pap & Mince and soup with salad with bread and muffins for tea at work, apparently all healthy foods, but at least it's free and can take as much as I want :D.

Sometimes we get tuna pie too or salad
