Heat pump, Good Idea?

What's the noise level like with that ITS outdoor unit?

I've seen them also when browsing around but as it's not a brand I'm familiar with or have seen installed anywhere before I have just kind of ignored them.

Good to know it uses Tuya, at least I know it will work in Home Assistant then.

It's the same noise you'd get from an aircon, so if it's near where you want to sleep, I'd probably have it not turn on when sleeping. As it does have an annoying hum to me (wife and kids don't seem bothered).
Of course it only runs when the water drops below the set temp, seems to be about 3 or so degrees below that. Then it runs for 5 to 15 minutes to warm it back up.
Full bath it warms the water back up in 50 minutes, whereas the geyser would take almost 2 hours and chomp 5 times the amount.

The hum would be determined by the load, mine inverter aircon I can only hear when it resonates through the wall at 900W, 250W-900W its silent to me, 900-1200W also. It also only stays there for a minute or 2 then winds down again.

I see their 300 litre tank is 31k. You mentioned having to replace the geyser. Since Lupus says install is about 5 to 10k, this might be worth while. You get double the capacity of typical 150 litre geysers, integrated heatpump and the benefits Lupus system has.


And no worry about geyser bursting in ceiling.

I'm sensitive to noises like that, whines, hums, buzzing anything that doesn't sound right keeps me up . But the rest of the house said it was fine, but it's also in a corner which acts as a bit of amplifier, so thinking of putting dampening material near that to absorb the noise.
I would still not have it run at night for bed though, but if you had it run at 8pm, you'll still have piping hot water in the morning. I turn it off at 10pm as long as temp is equal or higher then 52 at 10pm.

I see install plus new 200 litre geyser is 10k. It actually will cost the same to just put the 300 litre inetgrated heatpump tank thing vs changing you geyser and adding a heat pump to it.

They told me 36k total for my place with the tank. So about in line with your 5 to 10 install cost.

Edit: I obviously cheaped out and went for the Geysertech.

I know you folks mean well but my original question has already been buried by advice I didn't really ask for.

The reason you're getting unsolicited advice, and are struggling to find suppliers, have the same cause, which is that what you're trying to do doesn't make a whole lot of economic sense.

I doubt the efficiency gain from a heatpump relative to the direct heat options will ever pay back the additional capital.

What's the engineering problem that makes your situation unique, or are you just keen to have a heat heat pump in the mix for funsies?

I saw those, I'm just very weary of brands I'm not familiar with - the fact that it has an integrated heat pump in the unit also makes me worry a bit about servicing it.
