Okay here is a question, why can't Helen being the mayor of Cape Town ask the police to arrest the drug dealers?

I was under the impression that she, and a number of people had done exactly that, however, the Mayor of Capetown has no authority over South African Police.

Isn't she meant to be running that city?

Yes, running the city, she's not minister of Safety and Security or even Police Commissioner.

Why is there no apparent relationship between this and the following or statement?

It's remotely possible, it's also remotely possible that the ANC are running this country efficiently.

It's clear the police chief went missing, otherwise he could have intervened, but I guess the march posed a huge danger to all citizens in Cape Town & there would definitely be a lot of destruction of property - hey, the mayor of Cape Town is involved!

*Just imagine it was an ANC mayor who got arrested!! Sjoe, I wouldn't want to be the poor policemen who did it! Remember how the Metro cops got intimidated who arrested ol' Robert McBride!! Eish.

Negative. There would be a director of the Cape Metro police, but I don't think those glorified spiedkops were the ones who arrested Zille. The SAPS were most likely the responsible organization, and they are national - reporting to the national police commissioner - old Jackie Salebi, who in turn reports to the Minister of Safety and Security - Charles Nqakula. He reports to the big man himself. All ANC goons.

Anyway, I can't help but think that the DA has scored some major political points from this government screw-up. Zille was arrested, along with members of the community, in a march against drugs and organized crime! The cops are THE bad guys here for absolutely everyone not in government (or in the mob. Same thing really.)

Now I see she's taking the police to court over the incident. If she wins (and there's safe money on that), it will be the proverbial cherry on the sundae. The DA has definitely got some converts in the WC over this, and in conjunction with the "YOU'RE COVERING UP FOR A THIEF!!!!111ONE!!!" incident in Parliament, these are good times for the DA politically.

Awesome. More power to Zille and the DA. The incident was a travesty, as was the one in Parliament. If this sort of thing had happened in the UK, the Prime Minister would have resigned. If this had been in the US, we'd have impeachment hearings. But in SA, Mbeki pushes for a third term.
