If it was moving perhaps we would see some progress: instead it seems an immovable wall of [-]prejudice[/-] propaganda. Building higher instead of taking it down.Well i wont lie, that is indeed the truth. Or at least the direction i see this government of ours (ANC) moving towards.
Good god man did you not read the thread?
It was an organised march with police protection, they had to be there, she broke the law in front of them, what would you expect them to do..
Personally I think they should be arresting the drug dealers as well but she can't claim innocence in this.
There seems to be a difference of opinion on this.
The rules of the march were clearly set out, Firstly that the marchers were to keep moving, and secondly that designated persons were to present petitions to the alledged drug dealers.
The first person arrested was such a designated person as specified in the rules of the march.
Helen Zille then went to the police station to enquires as to why said person was arrested.
She was then arrested at the police station (not on the march)
Is it now illegal to make enquiries at a police station?
Again it very much depends on who's side you listen to... The original arrest seemed to be from the guy banging on the door which was not allowed. Helen was then arrested for doing a similar thing but her arrest only came later...
I'm not picking sides...
Having said that, I do think that the cops were out of line and over-reacted.

www.iol.co.za said:In ugly scenes, police dragged screaming women and teenagers into the charge office as relatives and bystanders tried to intervene. An incensed Zille walked to the police station and was taken to an office.
She emerged minutes later, saying she had not been arrested, only to be called back, when - in the presence of her lawyer, Stuart Pringle - she was formally taken into custody.
Maker was bundled into a police van after Zille had knocked on an alleged drug dealer's gate. A police officer alleged that knocking on the door fell outside the conditions of the march. An irritated Zille then told police that they should arrest her too.
Later, at the end of the march, Zille and Mitchells Plain police Director Jeremy Vearey had a verbal exchange in which she demanded to know what law Maker had broken.
Zille said she would lodge a civil claim against the police for wrongful arrest and malicious prosecution.
Last night, police spokesperson Elliot Siyangana said they had met march organisers beforehand, and agreed on conditions including no firearms, no stopping, and no entering alleged drug dealers' premises.
"During the march, one of the protesters violated the conditions by instigating the group, including the mayor, to act illegally at the premises of an alleged dealer," said Siyangana.
and then amazingly you made the following u-turn!....Well after reading a bit more it does look like the SAPS have made a monumental mistake.. From reading Helen's (one sided) view it instantly looks like the cops have been paid off to protect the drug lords. I am sure she is not going to let it go anytime soon though![]()
Seriously people, the suspected drug dealers did not break the law in front of a police officer. She did and couldn't expect to get away with it... Hopefully she has brought enough attention down on the drug dealers with her antics to get them arrested as well..
They should rather focus on catching criminals, than people knocking on gates of said criminals houses....Now instead of hammering on against the cops (who did their job)
That is exactly what Zille is trying to achieve by raising awareness, and also demonstrating that these criminals are well known in the communities, it is only the corrupt ANC lapdogs in the Police that ignores this fact.....or against the ANC (WTF?) rather concentrate on pushing for the drug dealers to be arrested and charged..
I'm sure the poor Zimbabwean citizens also thought that it will be impossible for a small bunch of idiots to ruin their whole country....Oh and this Zim 2 crap is really annoying.
Zimbabwe was NEVER anywhere close to being as advanced as South Africa is now... your doom mongering is boring.
Let's hope this happens, at least some good will come of it.....Personally I think they should be arresting the drug dealers as well but she can't claim innocence in this.

She admitted she broke the law.
She was arrested.
She was let go.
If this gets taken further by the courts I will be very afraid.
She's appearing in court tomorrow, ZimB0Bwe here we come!![]()
I give up....
She admitted she broke the law.
She was arrested.

I don't support the DA or ANC
We are nothing like Zimbabwe...
Do we see the ANC now distancing themselves form the actions of the cops now it has turned into a lose/lose situation? The old scapegoat tactic once again!
The ANC has distanced itself at national level from the arrest of DA leader and Cape Town mayor Helen Zille - adding that she should be "treated with a measure of respect".
As predictable as the sun rising...

Bang on the money.Zille's struggle credentials are really posing a strategic problem for the ANC....all the old dismissive tactics don't really fly with the woman who broke the Steve Biko story.
