Hellmann's - What junk is this?

I figured why my homemade mayo has been hit and miss lately. I've figured out that everytime my mayo has failed I've used Food Lovers bottled lemon juice, don't waste your money on that crap.

I had to waste 2 eggs and a fark ton of oil to figure it out. Switched to vinegar and the mayo actually emulsified properly.

The other day when coming back from the airport I bought some avos from a guy selling on the side of road between Makro and Cornubia Mall. The guy described them as "Butter pears" and they were really big, the massive ones where the size of a pawpaw for R40 for 4, I went for the slightly smaller one (not that much smaller) R40 for 5.

Anyway smallest one ripened and since my bamix was already out and have a crack, mashed half the avo with the blender then added some vinegar and sunflower oil + some salt and sugar for taste.

I was pretty shocked that it tasted like regular mayo just better.

OP you sure it's not just a regional thing?

I've got a sneaky suspicion that ZA mayo is on average more tangy that is the norm in other countries

I gave up all milk products for a week & saw an improvement in my skin.
Same

I enjoy Hellmann's and 'normal' mayonnaise too, Hellmann's with chips and salami sarmies and Crosse and Blackwell with most sarmies and salads. Variety is the spice of life.

Probably got as many real mayonnaise ingredients in it as Nola and Crosse and Blackwell.

:( A sad thread made by a white tea totaller zulu who does not appreciate fine UK mayo. He prefers the yellow cheap salad dressing stuff made locally

Ah well. We're all entitled to our uneducated, unrefined, toddler palates if that is the preference.

Hellmann's is good for a store bought mayo but doesn't compare to homemade mayo. Takes literally seconds to make with my Bamix. And My homemade Japanese Mayo :love::love::love:

Just because you have hentai stacks in the loo, doesn't make it Japanese mayo. The problem with homemade mayo is its longevity. Kewpie (Japanese) and Surree (Thai) mayo is very accessible to be purchased in SA.

With an immersion blender it takes literally seconds to make, lasts about a week if you're using any vinegar and 5 days if you're using lemon juice.

My Japanese style mayo is good for a week because I use rice wine vinegar. Works out way cheaper than buying Kewpie. Under R40 for the equivalent amount of bottle of Kewpie plus it's adjusted specifically to my tastes

I haven't had Surree mayo yet.

I did make a chilli mayo using my homemade chillie old and was pretty shocked how good it is with a sandwich especially with cheese and tomato sauce.

Please share your recipe @Polymathic with me and @PoppieChoffel
We love awesome mayo, especially the proper stuff made at home as opposed to supermarket stuff

Thank You

PS I hope you choke on your Crosswell Nash Mayo whatever it is called @RedViking
Just follow this if you have a stick blender

Japanese Mayo - 3 egg yolks, 1/4 tsp whole grain mustard, rice wine vinegar, sunflower oil, 1 tsp MSG (zeal), and 1/2 tsp sugar salt and pepper
