HelloPeter sold

South Africa’s premier customer service website HelloPeter has been acquired, with former owner Peter Cheales leaving the company

Bought by Vodacom, I hear. They are planning to close it down.

/jk :p

Yeah I received an email this morning from Peter Cheales sounding very bittersweet about leaving. Boohoo

"To the fabulous Companies Who Respond. Wow... you’ve been unbelievable. The way you embraced the concept from the outset. I couldn’t have wished for more supportive companies who were prepared to take the flack and respond."

Hellopeter was an innovative site that turned Peter's massive frustration with poor customer service into a great, world leading innovation and no doubt helped tens of thousands of customers to vent their frustration and (in some cases) get a level of response.

It was especially effective in the days before social networking really took off (and in industries which don't have MyBB to champion the customer cause relentlessly)

I must say it has formed an important part of my own understanding of the essence of customer experience.

What he means, "is too the sucker companies that were blackmailed into signing up"

Ok, so I had to go dig in my emails to find this:

I started Hellopeter in 2 000, and have worked at it every day since. It was just an idea. After all, there was nothing to replicate. No such thing as social media. Facebook hadn’t been created. Neither had Twitter. The word “blog” hadn’t been invented.

Hellopeter has become the biggest customer service site in the world.

That last part :wtf:. Ok, yes, it served it's purpose but calling it the biggest customer service site in the world?

It has helped me when I have a complaint for a "Company That Responds". If they aren't, then it's a bit of a waste. Although then I've forwarded it to the respective company, and have got the odd response.

I'm surprised anybody wanted to buy the site. It seems really dated now to the point of irrelevance.
