Help! Audi S3 or VW Golf R?

im wondering how much the rand dollar will affect the pricing, second hand or nearly new might be the way to go

The Golf R is indeed a better car than the Gti. But if you could not afford the golf R new before; you are not going to to be able to afford the second hand prices in January.

Look. I sorta feel for you. Back in the day you were the plasma expert and got lots of kudo's for it. Then you had that huge oopsy with the revving thread. Reputation sort of took a nose dive. Now you been caught passing off some other persons posts at your own. Since then you have become the messenger only; then not; (also denying point blank that I sent you a pm - which we both know makes you a complete liar) and then who knows what.

You are obviously trying to hide the truth under a deluge of posts. Sweet.

But I can carry on for years dude. Just ask @SauronZA :)

I went to compare the R and the S3 on Monday. The 2 VW salesmen were going on and on about resale value and how the R is known to be a better ride. The S3 salesman's main point was the exclusivity of the S3 as there are far less around than the R. All fair points. At the end of the day I was still just as confused about what I'm going to go for.

My head says R and my heart says S3 but only by a hair. Unfortunately the S3 Sportback for R479K with 16000km I wanted to get was just sold. That was a sweet deal!

I dropped an "R" with a Jazz last night because he was consistently doing 40 in a 60.

Guess he doesn't have money left for the fuel or just trying desperately hard to look cool.

Still don't understand why you would pay that much money for a Golf, no matter what the reviews say.
 
Lol...everything single car fan/nut has said the R is more than just a "Golf".

But that logic the S3 & RS3 is just an "A3"...why would anyone pay so much.
 
The R is better than the GTI. Because of that we have the GSI showing face again. The OPC is so much better than the GTI that is can be pitted against the R. Enter the GSI again, to humiliate the GTI.
 
I agreed with most of your points Roux until you said the new GSI will "humiliate" the current GTI...lol

The current GTI is known by many as the de facto standard for the hot hatch segment.

It's not amazing in any particular aspect but as an overall proposition it's unstoppable.
 
Why do you think they are going through so much effort to make sure the new GSI is tested properly? It will humiliate the GTI again - like is did so many times before. There is a reputation that comes with GSI, one that cannot be messed with.

Again I need to lol.

So what if they went through the "effort". That hardly guarantees success or any "humiliation". Acid test as always is production version vs production version & even then you take a median average from various reputable sites/mags to rule out any biasness.

Look I dig the old GSI models...however I think & I'm pretty sure many others would agree that those GSI models vs the equivalent GTI...the GTI always took the crown. The GSI was a good less mainstream rival.

But hey let's see what 2016 brings.
