So I'm in the market for a new ISP. Before the massive fiasco that is the Crystal/Evo Web stuff up i gotta say I was really impressed with thier service. Uncapped, unshaped, never been throttled 10mb account for under R800 a month was pretty good to me.

Basically I'm wondering where I can get that same type of deal again. So far people have mentioned Vox, and afrihost and webafrica look okay but it's been so long since I've shopped around I dont know where to start. I figure since you all seem to be so knowledgeable I'd ask here.

Uncapped, Unshaped and no throttling is my priority. Also the 10mb speed as that is the max my line can handle.

Thanks in advance for the help, and if im posting this in the wrong place or messed up the format some how please let me know, I know some sites can be real touchy about that stuff ;)

Afrihost aren't great if you want uncapped. While I was still on ADSL I used a capped Afrihost account. I started off on uncapped and it was awful, but the capped product got me decent speeds, I just chose a big enough cap to cover my needs (100GB in my case IIRC) and it was more than sufficient. Even ended up a bit cheaper IIRC. Granted this was a couple of years ago.

Im looking for the equivilant of the "premium home uncapped" 10mb package i was getting from CrystalWeb, for like R710 a month. most other places ive checked out so far offer 10mbs at half the price but some of the FUP stuff is a bit restrictive. I need a 10mb package that can handle heavy downloading, streaming and gaming at all hours

Seriously, Telkom. On their 10Mib uncapped account you can do 450GiB before throttling even comes into the picture, and they only start really penalising you at 900GiB. I'm on the 20Mib account and I can do 900GiB before throttling is even a thing.

The only time shaping comes into the picture is during Netflix time for torrents, when the protocol is deprioritised. I even get QoS settings and free dynamic DNS.

what is "netflix time for torrents"? I was burned by telkom in the past and once you get involved with them it seems like a huge mission to leave. the horror stories are endless. and in that recent poll put out here they were rated worst ISP so im really hesitant to use them. The level of customer service is just trash from what i remember

Telkom has changed!, I was looking at the Vox uncapped accounts, as we average about 750GB per month.
Very Interesting!
