Help,connection problem. A Strange one

Hi all

My E220 suddenly has a strange problem.

When I connect, i cannot go to websites
IE says "no internet connection."

But if I connect to a wireless network ( hotels ), I can suddenly get websites at full speed, eventhough I havent logged into the internet via the wireless network.

Everything goes through the E220, and the Vodacom software shows the MB transferred.

If I disable wireless networks or logout of the hotel one, The E220 stops transferring data, though is still connected to vodacom.

Unplugging the E200 while connected to the wireless network brings up the normal public internet access login screen, so im not connecting through it.

Any ideas ?

Got VISTA and a E220

This only started today. Worked fine for 4 months before

Have you checked your account balance?

Its very strange

Just a few bytes are going through the wireless connection, but without it nothing will go through the e220

Can VISTA or IE somehow have changed a setting that says the wireless connection has to be active before any internet connection will work ???

I was testing the MDMA app earlier this evening when the same thing occurred to me. I thought nothing of it until I saw this message.

I could connect to the internet with the modem, but I was unable to browse any sites. It would immediately error out. When I enabled my lan connection that connects through a wireless hub to an adsl line, I was able to connect to the internet.

I tried a download to check which connection it was using, and found that it was using the 3G connection, or at least looked like it. I don't gave any network monitoring apps on my pc.

Do an 'nslookup' and see through which network DNS resolution is taking place.

Ok, found one thing this morning

If I connect to www.google.co.za and then disable the Wireless LAN, I can do any search on google.co.za and it works, but I cannot go to any of the sites it finds or any URL i type in, unless I connect the wireless LAN to the hotels system ( without logging into their internet service )

Could this be a DNS problem ??
Could it be using the wireless system to look up the DNS ?

when i was on hold for 15 minutes on vadocom's customer care line last night, the computer voice said vodacom is experiencing difficulties, that it would connect but your browser will give an error.

Ah, could be that then

Thanks

That's what I'm thinking.
Run 'ipconfig /all' and make a note of your wireless and 3G IP addresses, then run a 'tracert' to your DNS server to see which route it is taking.

Your wireless card might be your default gateway, but you may have a proxy setting in your browser that forces the traffic through your 3G card.

The problem is that the DNS is being set to 80.95.225.230 instead of automatic.

I just setup a manual APN in the VMC software with APN=internet,DNS1=None, DNS2=None

How does one do this ?

Or should I get something to replace VMCLite ?

Hi Guys,

I'm also experiencing problems today!

E220 modem connects, all seems well, but won't connect to any sites, or to my email! Have never seen this before. I'm now connecting through my Omnia, and all seems well.

Any ideas?

Where you located ?

Seems its a vodacom problem. Probably DNS

Just to add, have 5 clients that have the same problem. 4 in Durbanville, Cape Town, 1 in Rivonia, JHB.

I am in Johannesburg. When I try to connect, a little box in the browser does say "DNS error".
