I doubt if anyone on this forum would hire you if they knew who you were. If you did the honest thing we might believe you on above-mentioned, but currently it is a bit difficult. :-/

Should anyone place you in such a state of panic, just because you used bandwidth - it is seriously time to change your job, what is next - you drank too much water or you used too much electricity trying to warm the room?

I suppose you have uncapped internet at home or your parents house, as well as not looking after your parents. If you bothered to read the entire thread, you would have seen that i only use the cap on the last day of the month, and i admit that leavingthe torrent on was an error on my side.

He has issues with Hitler. Do not want to rock the end of month torrent flow at work. End of last month i triple checked that the torrent would stop downloadind at 12, before the new cap starts.
 
Get real, you made a mistake by your own admission - we all do that. If you get fired, good riddance to that employer; (highly doubtfull) PM me if it is indeed the case.

I pay for my own, and do not have uncapped. And I have actually read the whole thread, not only parts of it. The bandwidth is not what I'm thinking of - it seems like you're trying hard not to disadvantage your company. But hiding a mistake behind hackers - that bothers me. You made a mistake, own up to it and offer to pay damages. Your boss should be glad of the honesty and the accountability, and you might actually get a good chance to remove part of that stigma from him. Come on, by owning up you let him know that it isn't likely to happen again, after all, it was only a mistake and not a habit. And keep in mind that he'll judge you as a honest person thereafter.

Back in the days I made the mistake of writing a closed-book test open book. :o It was honestly a mistake - I thought it was an open book test. My class mates kept mum, but afterward asked me why!? I went to the lecturer, explaining and apologizing. I asked her to give me zero, as I completed the test dishonestly. She appreciated my honesty and actually marked my test.

We all live with shame. Nobody is perfect. A real man is one who can own up to his shortcomings & as such will gain the respect & admiration of other real men.
 
I have read this thread and am highly surprised at peoples moral values on this forum.

Its easy to be an alias on a forum, but the real test is if you get away with this, can you lie to the person with a straight face?
My only worry for Roadkill2 is whether he can indeed pull this off.
A backfire at this point could very well be costly.

As for morals, if you could get away with it guaranteed, with no possible chance of getting caught i would.

Nobody is perfect and the person who claims to have never taken a office pen or never done anything wrong is a liar.
I don't know anybody that hasn't faltered in some way.

Its his career and honor on the line, and as for the morals, that is up to the individual.
Very rarely do politicians give up their bonuses because they haven't met their targets or because they feel its wrong.
Its debatable.

Ask yourself this Roadkill2:Can i pull this off?

Technically you can, but being grilled about something as potentially serious as this has serious risk involved.

Just own up to it, ....... if you try blame it on hackers or a virus and he still does an investigation , via the ISP requesting data logs (which will require a police case most likely) you will end up worse off.

In any case, the IT technicians who run the systems are allowing the abuse to happen.

No real IT department, thats why i see a chance of mending my ways without the chief finding out. Do not see the point of rocking the boat when i do not need to. Do not see them calling the Fuzz.

If they request ISP Logs, to what point can they trace the PC? The IP Address? (I have already changed the wireless IP address of the laptop & deleted any trace of Bittorrent) They will most likely try and pin a PC in the building (unfortunately not much to choose from)

Why did you bother posting if you had no intention other than to wheedle your way out of culpability? You made a mistake, just as everyone else in your office did - show them you have a spine.
 
From what i gather, we are on a 6gig cap, on a 1meg line. I seriously doubt he would know. As i stated previously, they banned Facebook because we almost got capped, way back when. Where i know the greatest loss to a company is time spent by the employee, and not the actual cap used on cr@pbook.

Some of my friends can waste 2 to 3 hours on that cr@pbook. Where my interest wains after 2 minutes.

I have no interest in virtual pets or farms.
 
6GB's is pathetic. Why not tell your boss that WA offers Titan packages for power users. What protocols are you using for business?

question is, who deserves more respect?
the guys you work with or the guy who pays you?

bad enough that its weekend and you dont know what to expect on monday.
get a hold of your beancounter and then man up.
when he gives you crap, then show him a breakdown of what he is spending now and a better deal that could save his company money.

flimsy , i know. but might get him thinking.. and could distract him enough from your mishap

As I see it you just don't want to ruin your chances of downloading on the company cap in future, the rest of the issues are secondary. True, you don't want to be the poephol that caused the boss to come down on everyones ass regarding downloads and torrents, but thats a secondary problem isn't it? Just face the fact that you are going to try and cover it up.. having a field day on the forums trying to ease your conscience isn't going to change the facts..
 
Be a man, grow a spine and own up!! I wouldn't want someone working for me who tries to publicly weasel their way out of a situation you created for yourself and has impacted the company. Worst of all you're looking for all sorts of scape goats! You were man enough to steal bandwidth (regardless of how you want to paint it with them 'loosing' the unused cap) so be man enough to face the music!
