Am I wrong to feel disappointed and disillusioned by the MyBB community right now? Or, is this just evidence that MyBB is not actually a community at all?

I hadn't seen the thread. I will head over there now though. As a family we have donated a boot full of clothing and shoes to a church we heard were collecting. Most of the clothing was in good to mint condition. I haven't personally donated money, but the value of clothing, etc. will easily exceed several thousand rand. We tend to find ways to help others in kind and monetarily. This happens whenever a need is identified. I don't wait for a disaster or thread to do so.

What's the point of this? Labelling anyone who hasn't been into the thread doesn't necessarily mean that we don't give a ****, as you put it. Perhaps the better way of handling this was to encourage members (through a catchy thread title) to get involved. Painting everyone with a tar brush is not.

If someone spoke to me like that in real life I'd tell him to take his cause and go get f***ed.
When charity becomes less about the choice of truly caring and turns into a cesspool of virtue signalling, unnecessary bureaucracy and potential lambasting when you don't jump at the cause then I'm out.
Yes, it's just a comment. And you know what, I'll do it.

But goddammit man, calm down before you spontaneously combust and cause another fire.

Maybe worth pointing out my post from page 4 of the original thread.

It's for exactly this reason that it's dangerous to give to big aid organisations: they'll do what they see fit with the money, regardless of your intentions. Can GOTG substantiate their claim that most of Knysna is wealthy and the affected individuals there don't actually need assistance? By whose definition? I call foul on that.
 
I am also baffled by the lack of contributions, even though I don't feel it's anyone's business to judge people on why they aren't commenting.

Plenty of worthy organisations mentioned already.

Slightly O/T, I was made aware yesterday that our company was fast tracking claims for homeowners who had lost their homes in this disaster. I was extremely heartened to hear that the company was already making payments for people to find alternate accommodation until they could get back on their feet again. I despise stories of insurance companies haggling over valid claims. Respect.

Yes, because I of all people give a fcck what people on MyBB think of me. Maybe I could have posed this better. This thread will still hopefully serve it's purpose. And frankly no matter how you word things on here you'll get people bitching and moaning and picking your shyt apart so what does it matter how I say things anyway?
