Help Me Build My 1st PC

I do not think you need more memory, good lord 6gb is plenty memory unless you are using more which i highly doubt.

Drop the 275 for ati rather. Are you planning on using a 750gb or 1tb hdd for windows?

I think 6GB's would be adequate too. The PC will mostly run a few FSP games, Aion MMO, a few CAD programs & thats about it.

I'm making the 750GB my Primary & the 1TB will be used for storing all my junk.

Physx, while a nice feature, is a proprietary feature. And unless nvidia pushes for it, it generally doesnt end up being in a game because of this. Nobody really wants to publish a game that excludes customers because of their hardware choices. And recently, with Windows 7 it became possible to run an ATI card for normal gfx, with an nvidia card purely for physx. So what does nvidia do? Updates all drivers to deactivate the nvidia card if in the presence of a non nvidia card. This in my opinion is going to make even less games come out with physx. Get the ATI card, its the best thing out there right now.
You also dont need the SSD. You can easily get away with 2 drives in raid 0, and wait until SSD's come down in price.

Awesome advice dude. Thank you very much! You've explained what I wanted to know.

I think SSD would be overkill for me now. IMO I doubt my dumbass would notice or appreciate the difference anyway. :D

you can just partition the drive. shouldn't be any problem at all.

Milo why i think a windows drive should be a stand alone drive is because if it dies, you lose your windows and your data, if it is separate you cannot lose both. That is just me though.

1. drop the sound card.
2. Get a 5850
3. You don't need a 750watt unless you're gonna run two graphics cards. Rather get the 650watt.
4. I7 works with tri channel ram so get 6gigs.
5. Get a 500gig western digital black drive for your windows.
6. If you say your sound is crap get some logitech x-540 speakers.

Qwik i feel so happy man, not a single comment about changing to AMD.

Progress!!!!!!!!!! :D

:D

I see AMD finally posted a profit in the 4th quarter of 2009. A large chunk of it from suing Intel. :D

First get the new motherboard and see if it sounds better than the previous board on the current speakers. If it doesn't then consider new speakers. This will tell you if it was the current board's audio output or if it was the speakers making it sound crap.

Better speakers can't fix a rubbish source, but no point wasting all that money on a sound card or new speakers without first seeing where the issue lies. Modern motherboards have much better output compared to older ones and discrete audio cards will even improve of that, but then you really got to be into your sound to spend that much money when board output will suit your needs.

Awesome thank you for the advice. I've dropped the soundcard. Going to get the Logitech X530 speakers. Because I go to Durbs alot & spend my Summers there, I think a bigger PSU might be handy - plus if I ever decide to expand, I know I have the power to do so.

yeah but that doesn't make the hard drive with all your data significantly less likely to fail is it? all that says to me is that you should be backing up your important data more often.

In all honesty even a 550watt would give you breathing room.
