I'm currently being pressured by my family to get a car. I made it clear in no certain terms, that I'm willing to only spend R100 to R120K max on it.

The motor fundies of MYBB with their extensive knowledge can please assist.

My needs:
1. Cheap to maintain if something goes wrong
2. Preferably low side of mileage
3. I live 3Km away from work, so I don't drive much.

I was also looking at the polo vivo 2017 model, or the hyundai grand i10.

Both with low mileage

apart from work, what else would you need a car for?

Do you and your friends go out alot? do you need to be a driver?

Honestly, i would rather set aside the 2-3k that you would be paying for a car, and use uber.. walk to work or cycle,

Polo is higher risk in terms of being stolen*, i10 would be my preference.

*disclaimer, this fact is pulled out of my arse and mainly based on the fact that VW's have a tendency to get stolen.

How many kids? Jimny is a rad option with such a short commute.

A toyota auris, buy right the first time, buy toyota.

Polo vivo terrible, stripped down, you hardy get eletric windows on the bottom the range!

Yeah, you can get a ****ing nice bicycle for R120k...

He isn't going to find one with low mileage in a good enough condition at his budget, which is a pity because even at high mileage a properly cared for Auris is still better than most mediocre offerings out there.

That's what I would like to do, I don't drive much at all.
I commute with a colleague to work as well. so barely any driving at all.

“Low mileage” is a going to be tricky for anything in the category of Polo Vivo, I’m not even sure will will get a “low mileage” i10 at that price.

The only mid-size hatchback I can think of that you may have a chance to find in your price range is a Sandero. Even here, we are likely talking 60 000 km plus.

I'm willing to push it up to 150K. VW seems to have good resale value if I decide to sell the car in 3 years time and spare parts seem to be in abundance and fairly reasonable.
