Hi All,

I set up the ADSL modem I received to my machine on Saturday and could connect fine for about 4 hours and then I lost connection. I haven't been able to connect to the internet since then :(

The modem lights up and when I check my network preferences on my machine it tells me that I'm connected via the built-in ethernet and connected to the internet. However, when I load up a page, the server cannot be found. I have restarted my machine numerous times, unplugged the modem and reset it and disconnected the ethernet cable and I am still not able to connect.

Also, I selected "I use a DSL modem to connect to the internet., this is the option I had selected when it worked on Saturday. I haven't changed any of the settings

Operating System: Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger
Modem: ZyXel IAD P2602

These are the steps I followed on Saturday:
1. Clicked on the Apple menu and chose System Preferences.
2. In the System Preferences window, clicked on Network. Set the Location to Automatic, and Configure to Built-in Ethernet.
3. Clicked on Assist Me. In the dialog that slides down, clicked on Assistant.
4. The Network Setup Assistant opens and does a walk through of the setup process.
5. I selected "I use a DSL modem to connect to the internet"
6. I select the PPPoE option and entered my details.

I called Telkom last night, after numerous attempts of getting support via mail failed. I was kept on hold for 40 minutes , finally got through to someone who was clueless about Mac's, was put on hold again for another 10 minutes, eventually I just gave up

Can anyone provide step by step instructions on how to get this working?

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

I would let the modem handle the connection and disable pppoe on your mac to make sure the connection is working.

Thanks bwana, I will try doing so when I get home later and will let you know what happens...

I disabled PPPoE and it says it's connected... but still a no-go.

How do I configure it so that it works again? Telkom's instructions are useless...

Any help, tips, suggestions?

Can you access the web interface of the router? Does it show everything as being 100% there?

Open Safari, or your preferred browser.

Access the router's web interface, reconfigure your ISP username and password, because you said you "reset" it, why would you do that?

Save it to the router and it should be connected.

Read your router manual to get the details.

I changed the network setting to use TCP/IP instead of PPPoE (as per the apple support site) and only then I was able to access the web configurator. I then changed the username/password info, applied the changes and it's working :D

Thanks for the help guys, appreciate it
