Hello all,

Yesterday for some bizarre reason my internet stopped working, it wouldn't connect to or load any site. So, I disconnected my ADSL dial-up connection and tried again. This time I am unable to connect to the internet.

Ok, let me restart my router and see what happens. My LAN is configured to use DHCP but for some reason it fails to obtain a DHCP IP from the router. Is this indicative of a problem with the Router? or the Onboard LAN?

However, if I assign a ip address to my router then I can successfully connect to the Internet BUT i cannot browse any websites. The little icon in the system tray shows no traffic is being transmitted.

The fact that I CAN connect to my ISP is telling me that the onboard LAN is fine and the problem perhaps lies with either the router or the line.

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Windows XP at the moment.

I have a ubuntu live cd lying around some where that i could also try

Check your DNS. Assign your pc's IP manually and set the DNS manually to the ip of the router, or get DNS from http/saix.net.

I would bet a R5 that you recently installed SP3 ?
Those Mega Routers should be left as doorstoppers. I have seen on a couple of occasions, PC's that gets upgraded to SP3 have internet issues. The reason (and i dont understand why) is that after SP3 those Mega Bricks assign IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, but NO DNS to the pc's

So you could even auto assign your IP and in primary DNS just set the IP of your router......

Yup, I have assigned IP's manually and when I do, then I can connect to my ISP but I am unable to browse any websites.

I have my default gateway set to IP address of the router but not my DNS, so that is something that I can try.

The strange thing is that if I do connect to my ISP then I do get a DNS addy assigned automatically.

Nope, I only recently installed Windows XP and it's SP2, haven't had a chance to upgrade to SP3 yet.
