Hi,

A few years ago, I bought my wife a Toshiba STOR.E TV multimedia player, my Step-Son, formatted this device, as his PC could not read the files on it.

Now it no longer works as a multimedia player.

Is it possible to repair his stupid impulsive action?

Many thanks.

Off the cuff sounds like the wrong partition type. You might be lucky and get it back to working by using a different file system: Its probably formatted as NTFS (From your PC sentence), so I would first try EXT2 then FAT32.

Should be possible, will just have to restore it to original state.

Restore to original state?

Doubtful, as he then used it as a external HDD - was at a LAN.

Maybe time to just right it off - start saving to buy my wife a new one.

Damn kids who don't know as much as they think they do, and who don't think about what they do. :)

I'm pretty sure it can be restored to it's previouse state.

Get the same device and clone entire hard drive to yours. It will restore original format. Not sure, it will work, protection using serial numbers might kick out.

Edit:
It looks like these are similiar cases with formatting hard drive:

The URL referenced in the fist link does not work - file not found.
The second leads me to a rom image, same as that pointed to by Rudimental, and the third, indicates, it might or might not work.

Will try the rom image, and hopefully it works, device is long out of warranty, so cannot send it back.

Thanks

I have a 500gb Stor.E TV lying around somewhere, but I recall formatting it often without issue. My issue is that the damn remote stopped working.

Will dig it out later and see if it is FAT32. I finish work at 1.

I still can access the first link:

Hello, I have formatted my Store TV and now i am unable to use it anymore.
Could anyone help me with my problem?

Hi

A fried of mine has had the same multimedia HDD.
I don’t know if this will help you but here is the Store TV default content which you can find on the HDD by default.
Store TV default content http://www.myupload.dk/showfile/1e1L70Daq.7z
Maybe it helps you if you would copy the all the folders to the HDD.
Let’s try.

Other thought is to try new FAT32 or NTFS on primary partition (or even complete empty, no MBR, no partition), then see if you can access setup menu to restore default configuration (possibly doing default format)
For bromster. Ranish Partition Manager (or Partition Magic) can report a number associated with partition and other formatting details. That would be very useful.

Thanks, tried it on my Linux box, and it is almost finished downloading :)

Still another 6 hours, before the content on it is copied to another HDD. :(

Then I can fiddle with it ... :)

It's formatted in NTFS. I can format the drive in Windows without affecting the File system or built-in OS.
