Hi,At home we currently have 2 computers........

A P4 1.8 dual core
250 gig Hdd
1gig Ram
5.1 surround sound

And

A P4 2.8HT
200 Gig Hdd
512 Ram
Tv card
500gig external Hdd

i currently have the 2.8Ht but want 2 swop it with my dad for the Dual core because he only uses it for email/internet and my computer i use for games,videos,music....etc

If i do manage to get his pc how do i swap the hard drives?
i think mine is IDE and his is Sata
i don't want 2 just swop the entire pc because we both have important stuff on our hard drives which we need

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks

Howzit Nimz. I'll advise you backup your data off both, then do fresh installs once you have your drives where you want them. Simply swopping the drives around could create headaches with windows(which I assume you're using)

If the Motherboard that the P4 2.8Ghz Ht processor is in supports the P4 Dual core 1.8Ghz why not just swap the two processors around, oh and the ram of course:)Save's alot of time bothering with the Hdd's

Unlikely that the processors can be swopped. I'm with TheStealth on this one. Rather backup everything and do fresh installs as you're going to run into a world of problems when it comes to drivers and whatnot, if simply swopping the hard drives.

Its a little Bit tricky but if your good with small bits and you are careful it should be fine.Um...First we need to know if your Motherboard will support your dads processor. Can you give us the name of your motherboard? You can download a little program that will tell you exactly here: http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_145.zip
