I want to cancel Dstv and instead get an uncapped adsl subscription, I want to get a 4Mbps connection. however, I have no idea which isp and deal to go with, what in your opinion is the best option? Also how much does line rental cost? I've tried researching it, but to no avail...

I am at the same cross roads; however from my research here what I've gathered:

ADSL Cost
Afrihost - 397 pm
Mweb - 539 pm

Telkom Line rental - 157 pm

ADSL Line Rentals
Afrihost 279 pm
Mweb 210 pm

In terms of customer service the other members can advice. But I am leaning towards Afrihost.

Thanks for your reply Sgt. Troy!
I was thinking about Openweb, I've heard a lot of horror stories about throttling with most isps, they claim that they don't throttle your speed and only shape it when absolutely necessary, their uncapped 4Mbps adsl is only 295pm. Can someone post their experience using Openweb?

Useless during business hours, fantastic after hours (after 8pm).Im on OPenweb GOLD 2Mbps and afrihost 1 gig (R24!) when im at home during the week.
When do u intend using your line and for what other purposes?

I'm using it to replace Dstv, so I want to use it for video streaming and downloads, preferably during the day...

I'm with Openweb and have been for a while. I have had brilliant service and no issues with throttling. They don't even monitor your usage. Would def recommend :)

What is your download speed like during the day? What is the speed you pay for compared to what you normally get?

There is a distinction between daytime and nighttime speeds, the vast majority of OPENWEB clients will agree with me on this.
They truly dont give a rats arse how much you download :D and for that i'l be a customer for life, but i cant vouch for their line during the day...:(

That sounds pretty good, if I can download a few files during the day at slower speeds, and stream at night with faster download speeds I should be fine. I could also manage to do most of my downloads at night. My only worry with openweb is the speed during the day and how it's affected...

Depends on the package you opt for. Entry level products are shaped heavily during the day - you get what you pay for...

Ya cant really comment on day time speeds as I am work then, but night and weekend flies. Especially when they decide to fully unshape the lines for the whole weekend :)

I was on Gold for a long while and had no real issues at all during the day. I discovered that my issues were all line related...

Seriously? Like clockwork every evening at 8pm the floodgates open and the torrents come down at 200Kbps :D Maybe its cos i download so much that they shape me during the day.If that is the case then i apologise OP.
