Hi,

I have two routers:
A Netgear DGND3700 (N600 Wireless Router). This is the primary router that connects to the ADSL line and works fine over wire and WiFi.
D-Link DSL-2750U (N300 Wireless Router).

The main router can't connect through the whole house so I would like to use the second router as an additional WiFi Access point. I have CAT5e running in the roof between the two routers.

What do I need to setup on the routers to get things running:
The D-Link default IP is 10.0.0.2. I changed this to 192.168.0.2
The Netgear's address is 192.168.0.1.

I turned the DHCP off on the D-Link Router so that the Netgear will handle this.
I said the DHCP range on the Netgear to 192.168.0.3 to 192.168.0.254

I have set two different SSID's, Lounge and Bedroom on different channels.
When I connect to the D-Link via wireless I do not have any internet access, what else do I need to change?

If I connect via Wire to the D-Link, the Internet works fine.

I have just rebooted both routers and now it is fine.
Is there anything wrong with making both SSID's the same, operating on the same channel, so that the devices will see both routers as one bigger network? Or do I keep the SSID's the same, but different channels. Or should I keep them seperate as they are now?

Sounds like you got everything sorted right
3 questions

-When connected to the Netgear can you log into the D-link?
-Which port do you have Cat5 connected to in the D-link - if its the WAN port there's your problem.

-Why do you have the D-link on a different SSID? Not to do with your question but its more convenient to run to the same SSID (as long as its a different channel) devices will switch between the 2 seamlessly.

lol we posted at the same time.

My opinion use the same SSID and Password just different channels - makes life easy as I mentioned devices see it as the same Wifi network so seamlessly switch between them.

^This, works great for me as well.

Okay awesome thanks will give that a go. When connected to the netgear I can't connected to the Dlink control panel. Is that normal?

nope you should be able to log into both control panels of both routers no matter which router you connected to.
I'm assuming you can log in if you connected to the D-link - then possibly the DCHP Server might be switched on again on the D-link.

Thanks for the help, I have changed the SSID to match the other, one at channel 1 and one at channel 10 and everything is working fine.

I can also access the control panels of both routers at
192.168.0.1 - Netgear
192.168.0.2 - D-Link

Okay I have trialled things today and have noticed that when my Galaxy S4 is connected to one of the routers, it won't handover to the stronger signal, even when that signal gets to -88dBm and the D-Link is -45 dBM it still won't change over. Is there any way around this?

cool
looks like you all set up :D

Not anymore, have no idea what's going on.

When I set the same SSID and different channels, neither my Macbook OR My Samsung S4 will connect to the D-Link router. Even if a stand right next to the D-Link, it would rather connect to the Netgear at the other end of the house with one bar (-85dBm) signal.

When I set different SSID and different channels, neither my Macbook nor my S4 will connect to the D-Link. Seems to be having an issue acquiring an IP.

Here are my settings:
- The Netgear is connected to the ADSL point.
- The Netgear has IP 192.168.0.1
- The Netgear DHCP server is enabled
- The start address for DHCP is 192.168.0.3
- The end address for DHCP is 192.168.0.254
- The RIP direction is 'both'
- The RIP version is 'disable'

The connectivity to my D-Link control panel from the Netgear's WiFi seems to be intermittent or non existent.
-The D-Link IP is set to 192.168.0.2
-The D-Link DHCP server is off

I have tried changing the start of the Netgear DHCP range to 192.168.0.2 with no luck!
I do not know what steps to try anymore!

If I connect to the D-Link WiFi network from my Macbook when both routers are connected to each other I get this each second in the network monitor after attempting to connect:

Second 1: Wi-Fi is connected to DlinkWiFi and has the IP address 192.168.0.4
Second 2: Wi-Fi does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet.

It seems to be an issue with DHCP. I'm not sure how I can fix it.

Try changing the channel to 3 on one router and 6 on the other.

It literally worked for about two or three minutes and then back to normal. My S4 just says "Obtaining IP address" then eventually disconnects

This seems to be a DHCP issue, are you absolutely sure the DHCP in the Dlink is disabled?

No IP is given when using an ethernet cable UNLESS I use manual ip settings on the macbook.

100% sure the DHCP is disabled on the D-Link. I have read online that the RIP version on the netgears often default to the wrong setting but I have tried different settings to no avail

The 2750u's have a setting for DHCP relay, which basically means when a device tries to connect and get an IP address, the router will forward the DHCP negotiation to your other router. See if that option can be selected, and whack in your netgear's IP in the DHCP Server IP block.

This is what I did when I chained my 2 2750u's together, and worked for me.

Then 100% DCHP issue - is there not another setting in the D-link?
