Help with my thinking

I bought (2) Cell C sims loaded with 3 gigs valid for a year, RICAed the works. So I use them from time to time in the year. ( Cell C coverage is very bad in my area so I use them seldom, only when away. Why did I buy Cell C you my ask - now I wonder myself )

Now I have an intersting situation that developed, and Cell C tells me "Thats the way it is"

The cards expired before the years data availability expired!! Cards not used for 6 months I was told, the numbers get recycled. How does RICA works does reallocation of number get RICAed on the new holder - I hope.

Now my thinking is this how can I be sold data valid for a year if the card is monitored for usage in a shorter period for expiry. Surely I can use the data (card) whenever I want in that year.

If this has been covered allready in the forums please point me there.

I agree with your thinking. If you load a bundle valid for 365 days on to your SIM card, your airtime window should be extended by the same amount.

Regardless of usage, the deal is 365 days and 365 days should be honoured.

I had feed back from the Cell C rep on this forum. No denying that the one number has been permanently de-activated. Other workable suggestions was made. I have yet to deside if I want to continue my doing business with Cell C.

No mention what so ever about the fact that is was taken away BEFORE the years data expired.
I did request a pointer to a Cell C T&C where this is explained so I can read it and post it here, but NOTHING !! So far.

I am disappointed with this turn of events, and I am convinced that the other networks will not perform any better. They have my money and it is my fault for trusting them in the 1st place. Basically I am scr*ed.

Thank you AKG and Cell C.

If Cell-C are going to offer data bundles valid for one year, they need to adapt their systems to extend one's airtime window at the same time.

It is not going away Cell C

And after months that I had been ripped off, with NO HELP from the Cell C rep, Cell C is getting it from more and more ripped off users, or like in my case, previous user. It is nothing but plain dishonesty Cell C and you will get exposed as long as you practice it.

You seem pretty calm about it considering how you've been jacked - this must be the most blatant case of theft I've seen so far from cell c. I thought their top-up-rip-off* scheme was a pretty good moneymaker, but this is probably better.

* This is a rather clever business where they deduct 1c, just 1c off your account for a failed top-up. So let's say you purchased R100 airtime to buy data and it fails, now you've got R99.99. You can't buy R100 data with R99.99, so if you still want R100 you'll need to buy the smallest top-up, I think it's R5 when all you wanted was 1c.
I didn't believe my friend when he said it was doing this but I tried charging his phone and checking balances before and after and sure enough it was 1c less each time (because once you've failed the first time you obviously can't succeed until additional airtime is purchased). I spoke to the call centre and explained what happened, they said it isn't possible. I asked them how a few cents had disappeared off the airtime from what was purchased, they couldn't explain it, could only repeat to buy more airtime. They were going to call me back after an investigation, that was I think in March some time, still waiting...

Do your device open packet data connection (GPRS/EDGE/3G)? It would be explanation for 1c deduction.

It was done using a cell phone and dialing I think it's *147#, so I don't think so?
But did that cell phone have an open connection to the internet in between the time the airtime was purchased and the attempt to convert it to a bundle?

That was my question. Remember that even no data is transfered just opening connection, account is billed. In my experienc MTN do it, the same probably with Cell C. Solution is to disable auto connect, which some devices have as default.
