Hey guys, so here in my town of Oudtshoorn pre-orders for FTTH just opened but the problem is I don't know what ISP to go with?

The main thing that I'm looking for in an ISP that offers relatively low ping ( under 180 is fine) and packet loss for online gaming and just generally good quality internet.

ISPs I've looked into so far:
Vox
Herotel (they're installing the network in the town and they have the lowest price)
Frogfoot

Thanks for the help in advance!

Kind Regards
PrimeSteak

I'm going to recommend Afrihost as a ISP, cant comment on their Frogfoot performance, happy with everything else though.

CISP has great latency to EU if you're in cape town, not sure what other cities get that.

I assume CISP is Cool Ideas? Will check them and Afrihost out. I'll also check Telkom out (after reading an article here on MyBB about their fibre price reductions) even though I'm hesitant about them with their shite rep and all...

I'd steer clear of Telkom because of their support unless money is tight.

The following was about a year and a half ago.

My fibre line was down for three days instead of one since their support cant check what's going on Openserve side and as such didn't see that a technician hadn't been assigned.
The only reason this was found out was because I contacted them on Facebook, the next day a technician from Openserve got assigned and 30 minutes later my line was back up.
I put notice for cancellation on same day.

Can highly reccomend CISP also
- excellent network
- friendly and competent support staff

Can't say the same for Ahrihost - experience with them has been atrocious on multiple levels so would not use them even if they provided their services for free.

See, while your experience is most definitely valid and opinion on CISP unanimously shared with almost everyone here, one can most definitely do far worse than Afrihost.

For example, I've been with them for 8 years on ADSL and briefly for a year on LTE, and the support I've gotten from them has been top notch, and was one of the few business to actually phone me back in a timely manner. Most of the real issues were outside their control and had to be taken up with Telkom and MTN directly, but they tried their best for me where possible. I wouldn't call this atrocious, and I'd hate to use the word 'lucky' to have received this kind of service when many others share the same experience (same can't be said for WebAfrica, most WISPs, rain for instance), and I'm sorry that was the case for you. Just wanted to put it out there as a balance as I've seen the same post from you in multiple threads regarding ISP services.

Another vote for CISP.

Can anyone tell me what prices and speeds CISP offers, cause I tried to do the coverage checking thing on their site and it doesn't work at all (I assume after that works, they tell you what you can get at what price)

Who is your fibre provider?

Usually means the polygon doesn't align as per Google maps, a workaround would be to try another address and move the pin.

It doesn't even show a map, it just says check your address with a cartoon pic and then that just disappears as well... I've tried other addresses with the same result...

Then maybe a browser issue, can you try another device?

You can leave out the city/suburb and it will show all the packages..
Ok, checked again, it's a tad too expensive...

The max my parents can afford is R600 a month so sadly it ain't gonna work. And yes I set it to 10Mbps, cause it's the cheapest option.
