I used to always reset my router by unplugging it for a few mins and then plugging it back in, to get cap on the 1st of the month.

The last few months it just doesnt want to sync.... ( the light on the router just goes orange instead of green).

I pretty much have to unplug it for like 5 hours and then plug it in again for it to sync.

Any ideas as to why this is happening ?

Thank you

Who's your ISP?
Monthly cap allocations should usually be automated bang on mid-night, but by the sounds of things it could be because of poor sync on your line or exchange.

Telkom is our isp. I have a seperate account with afrihost that i dial in with, and ye that afrihost resets at 12.

With regards to the telkom, it will just stay on local cap until i reset it.

The problem is, im busy working and need the internet for what im doing, so im scared to reset it, and my afrihost is always slow in the afternoon, which is also a bit crap atm :(

ja Jeff, telkom accounts don't reset automatically because of that ICASA ruling forbidding them to terminate a customer's current connection without prior notice.
anyway Fonzy, this reminds me of a problem i had sometime back where it wouldn't sync at all if there was a filter connected to the phone. and then only some time after removing the filter would it sync out of the blue. turns out it was a physical fault on the line.

Most routers have a "disconnect" button somewhere in the user interface. This way you wont lose the sync.
