So the kid has been using a Nokia N8 for the last 2 years....now she wants something else.

I gave her R2000.

Is their something better than the N8 on the market, in this price range, that has at least a bigger screen, more storage and Android?
She uses the camera a lot...I'd say it's being over used....watches youtube vids on it..and loves downloading apps.
Twitter and Whatsapp more than actual verbal communication

So far I've found the Hisense U970 Infinity Prime 1 ....but don't know anyone using this.

Thx guys...will look into those Samsungs...so far the Hisense does look like better value for rands....might be wrong

Or you can check out Huawei, they have some pretty decent phones...affordable too...
Also Alcatel has some decent phones and 7inch tabs...cheap cheap...

After reading how satisfied people are with Motorola's latest phones (Moto X, Moto G and Moto E) I'd seriously consider paying a little bit more and getting a Moto G. If you're willing to go the second hand route, you might be able to get a good deal (like a Galaxy S3 or maybe Galaxy S4 mini). If you're going to get a new phone, consider the Moto G. Personally, I'd be a little hesitant to trust a lesser known brand coming from China.

Check out the Acer Liquid E3 from the Orange store. Decent specs for the price - 13MP rear camera, 2MP front facing camera with flash, Android 4.2 Jellybean, support for microSD card, dual sim...

Options options...now I'm confused....I guess I don't know how reliable these lesser brands are

Having bought Huawei and Hisense (am currently using the Pure 1), I will say the cheaper Huawei's (Y300 / 330) are good value for money in the R1000 up to R1400 range, but they have some bloatware, whereas the Hisense is more plasticky, but has less annoying add ons. Note though, the camera on Hisense is not in the iPhone / Lumia league. So far the Hisense is behaving very well.

I got a HiSense U1 for my sister 18mths ago and it's still going strong with plenty of use. Reckon the U970 Infinity Prime 1 you were considering should be OK, HiSense seems to be becoming a "name" brand in the budget arena these days.

Thanx for the input guys...
Would a BB z10 be a better option then the Hisense and Motorolas?....no android

If I didn't have experience with a Nokia Lumia 925, I would have said , go for a cheaper Lumia, but the apps integration is just too much of a PITA, only Nokia Apps work well on Win8. Not sure if Blackberry is still worth it either.

Don't consider BB an option. If you not going droid try iOS. Very user friendly and intuitive but for R2k you looking at a 12 month or older 4s.

Windows phone also a solid contender but I've no experience with them so won't comment further...

Nokia Lumia but upgrade to W8.1 (Beta but awesome).
I think Nokia Lumia won't be called Nokia Lumia in the near future.
Windows Lumia? Microsoft Lumia?

Alcatel C7 for R1899. 5 inch screen, Quad Core,, 5mp camera, Android 4.2 And 1GB ram
