Hi guys

Im a new user on the forum, but i have over time, visited to look for various solutions to problems.

I am moving to SA from the UK next month. However, i need to be able to call the UK, both landline and cell, from a phone. Obviously, the question begs to me as a simple mortal, what is best, voip, sip, calling cards etc etc?

I will be 99% be making international calls to UK, so SA calling costs dont really matter.

Essentially, outbound calls are the key. I will be living in the Helderberg Region, and the area can obtain adsl.

I wanted some ideas really on the lowest cost provider, either existing Telkom type people (i know they are infamous!) or whether the likes of Open Voice, IS Global etc was more appropriate. Skype is often championed on here, but those who im calling dont posess this.

In an ideal world, id be able to route some inbound calls using my existing UK number, but i dont know how feasible/expensive this is.

Any help at all folks would be hugely appreciated, since im a little naive on this technological format in SA.

Thanks in anticipation guys.

Thanks moklet and pope.

I had been considering SKYPE but was a bit unsure.

With regards to an ISP, who would you recommend as the cheapest/best for Skype?

Im dreading having to re-connect/re-activate my landline via Hellkom! I need it in 4 weeks at the lates, but god only knows when they will do it, let alone reply to my email. I dont think they want to reply to UK queries!!!

www.iburst.co.za and www.vodacom.co.za, both of them provide good wireless interenet connection and have wide coverage in most SA cities. The good thing about Vodacom 3G data card is you can rent it for R20/day from www.cellucity.co.za, they have retail shops in all major SA airports. It can be a temporary option before you sign a 24 months contract with any of the ITSPs. For receiving all the incoming calls, you can buy a local SIM card. Beside Skype,
you can check www.voipbuster.com, www.voipstunt.com, www.freecall.com, they provide Free phone calls to landline in many European countries, if you bought 10Euro credit from them. Their call rate to SA landline is even cheaper than Telkom. :)
