Hermanus CPF 19/07/18 update at 21h00 : the situation in Zwelihle continues; at times tense, at times critical. There are ongoing incidents between rioters and Law Enforcement agencies. R43 is open and SAPS, POP, Law Enforcement and Traffic Officials are actively attending to the situation.

Please keep your kids inside. Its dark and we dont want a case of injury.

Please dont sensationalise this. This is only around Zwelihle and some areas in front of Mt Pleasant.
 
Hermanus CPF 19/07/18 update at 22h15 : the situation in Zwelihle is ongoing and volatile. POP are in the area and an arrest was made. The R43 is open. SAPS, POP, Law Enforcement and Traffic are active.
We confirm an incident that happened after 19h00 this evening when a POP member was assaulted with an axe to his head and was robbed of his firearms. He has been admitted to hospital in a critical condition where he is receiving treatment.

That alone is enough reason that you are not dealing with protesters here, if this is allowed to continue, hardened criminals win.
 
Policeman severely assaulted, robbed in volatile Hermanus

A member of the Public Order Policing Unit was attacked on Thursday night as the protest situation in Zwelihle, Hermanus, became volatile, Western Cape police said.

While he was severely assaulted, the officer was robbed of his 9mm firearm and shotgun, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said.

"He was admitted to hospital where he is being treated. Our deployments will remain on high alert in the area to maintain law and order."

Traut added that they had no record of live ammunition being used to shoot an officer.

If it is the same attack I heard reported on the radio, he was attacked with an axe.

In a surprise turn, the 5fm news reader also referred to its at the ''ongoing riots in Hermanus''. Could to see someone in the mainstream press calling it what it is.

Normal people who give up time and money and energy raising funds, building houses, organising work, so many things. It's just disappointing that people in the township who may have real grievances, allow them to be overshadowed by the views and ramblings of people like this.

This very thing is actually mentioned in the FB post along the lines of "when whites try help us, they act like they are doing us a favor." Just stinks of entitlement. These people should spend a month in the slums of Mumbai and see what true hardship looks like. They don't deserve the help.

This is exactly what they should have done ages ago. You stop the problem from the top. The rest of the people will follow suit.

They need to investigate and monitor the situation, they also need to gather ammunition for a successful prosecution. You can't just go in an arrest someone, they'll be released almost immediately.

I have just flown in a helicopter over Zwelihle to see all the destroyed facilities. Tragic. The situation is calm now because yesterday the police brought in the Tactical Response Team and the National Intervention Unit. There was then enough police personnel to act decisively.
The concerted action occurred after a patrolling policeman was attacked by an axe-wielding man and severely injured, and his firearms stolen. A case was opened enabling the police to go door-to-door on a search-and-seizure operation. They arrested the ringleaders and recovered two of the three firearms stolen.
The arrest of the four ringleaders of the marauding gangs has returned calm to the area.
Thank you to the SAPS. Things were turned around last night. ^HZ
