USA went to Iraq because Saddam had weapons of mass destruction(well that was their reason) if America was so worried about the world and Saddam nuking everyone then why the US arent going to N.Korea bombing them? they openely claim to have weapons of mass destruction.

Its quite funny that the only after the Islamic countries which hold 70% of the worlds oil reserves.

you exactly right, the US only though that Iraq had nuclear weapons, and bomb them, here N. korea are already testing it, and no1 hear about that.

Also the Vietnam campaign was micro-managed from the White House.

So are you saying the White House has crap micro? Like 50 apm or something?

The Americans also had air superiority in Vietnam and that did them a fat lot of good against the Viet Cong ... they had popular support and blended in with the civilian population and had extensive undergound tunnels and bunkers which is the very same tactics used by Hezbollah.

At some point you have to take on the enemy eyeball to eyeball.

These people are fanatical are now seemly well trained courtesy of the Iranians and fighting on their home ground ... a deadly combination as 23 dead Israeli soldiers so far testifies.

They ain't no Saddam Republican Guard.

The Americans did loose Vietnam, not because of their lack of strength/technology/skill, but rather through the fact that their own politicians tied the hands of their own military because of presures from home.

Infact by the point where most people claim they "lost" they had already stopped fighting and where withdrawing.

Just wondering how the IDF is going to apply conventional tactics to solve an unconventional problem ?

Well they dropped leaflets on 14 villages in Southern Lebanon telling the inhabitants to get the hell out as the IDF was coming to town to prevent an already bad PR with the civilian casualties.

Needless to say Hezbollah now knows exactly where to concentrate their forces for the most and deadliest effect.

Hezbollah have no such qualms i.r.o civilian dead while the Israeli's like the Americans now in Iraq and in Vietnam have to play by the rules of civilized nations.

But the only way to wage war efficently is a TOTAL DEADLY NO COMPROMISE war like the Allies did against Germany in WW2 ... i.e the firebombing of Dresden and dropping two nukes on Japanese cities.

Well, the IDF dropped those leaflets, but they forgot to tell the people how to appropriately leave, considering they are blasting the roadfs and the cars using the roads.

Anyway, I'm usually pro-isreali, but they are causing ****. WTF do they have to bomb Beirut? Isreal is the most terroristical (my own word) at the moments..

Israel did'nt start the **** but they WILL end it.
However, having said that, I think they should have perspective on their actions, killing civvy's isnt the best way to get rid of the Hizbollah group.
They are in fact, launching attacks in the only other democracy based country in the ME. :(

But bear in mind that Prime Minister Olmert and Defense Minister Peretz has no experience of combat hence partly this massive blitz against Lebanon to establish their credentials as "strong" men as questions have been raised about their suitability for the job esp in the case of ex union leader Peretz.

Why do you think the hero of Sinai and the butcher of the Shattala refugee camp a.k.a now comatose Ariel Sharon was willing to pull out of the occupied lands to make peace with the Palestinians ???.

Perhaps he knows the price that is to be paid if they do not.

Day 15 with a few more weeks/months to go before the internasional force is deployed on the border. (the only terms where Israel will negotiate)

uhm how do they play by the rules when they have already knocked out telecoms, electricty, water, most highways etc? Army deaths are close to the same but civilian deaths are like 20+ times more.

So what they gonna rename the war soon to put a positive spin on it? Opperation free lebonese? rofl. Rockets continue yes cause both parties continue firing them. Amazing how it is justified to destroy a country and kill civilians when you ARMY personel get taken hostage.

Anyone know where the soldiers were when they were captured. I'm sure I remember reading it was on Lebonese land, but I can't find a link to back that up.

Cohen said that militants crossed into Israel in at least two places, while others fired rockets at several sites along the border.

In one assault, two Israeli Humvees on border patrol were hit by a roadside bomb, then besieged by gunmen who captured the two Israeli soldiers and spirited them into southern Lebanon, Cohen said. Three Israeli soldiers died in that attack.
....

People don't seem to understand the intricacies of insurgency warfare. Insurgency warfare is the best form of warfare when you are a relatively small or ill equipped fighting force. It is heavily reliant on hit and run fighting with surprise being the best weapon. Israel is doing the best it can against insurgent warfare by taking away the insurgents best form of cover, namely the people. The people of Lebanon (contrary to what many believe) will think twice before housing, stowing away weapons or supporting insurgents in future because of the so called "overreaction" of Israel. In view of what insurgency warfare is all about Israel is acting quite responsibly. The morality of either side's "cause" is an open question though. I would however do the same had Zimbabwe for instance posed an insurgence warfare threat for South Africa.

I just think it is important to note that there isn't much of a choice (strategy wise) for Israel but to attack infrastructure in Lebanon. They are not doing it because they are mean, or because they can. They are doing it because it is the only effective way of stemming insurgents.

I am personally of the opinion that the best way to sort out the Middle Eastern / Israeli question, is by letting all parties duke it out to the end. Last man standing, gets it all.

Well it's no surprise that Hezbollah arn't any push overs - they're supported by the Syrian and Iranian goverments who have serious amounts of cash and some impressive technology, although dated compared to the US.

Also I can't believe that Hezbollah were operating in Lebanon without the Lebanese government knowing. Although their intelligence is probably below-par, surely there must've been at least tip-offs or rumours about a terrorist cell working in Lebanon?

And I agree with Antowan. The force employed by the Israelis will show the Arab world not to mess with them, although the conflict is sure to go on for some time.

Where are you finding this stuff? Not questioning it's validity, but I'd like to read it too...

BTW are you the same killadoob from SGS?

Violence begets violence.

Once they have finished killing each other they will still need to negotiate a truce/peace.
Pity the people have to die first.
Man will never learn.
There are no winners in war, only dead people and misery.

Yip as the saying goes - War doesn't determine who is right, war determines who is left ;)
