They come in a few shapes.

I have it plugged in and set to dim. When the power goes off it comes on automatically.
Prbably not neccessary between 12 and 5 am, but it may make the burglars think somebody is home.

The light is pretty bright when you set it on full.

Aldo have some load shedding bulbs around the house. Don't buy the cheap ones.

How do you get the power from the battery to the lights?

Yes, the Magneto ones have that functionality as well if you leave them plugged in. You just plug it in and move the switch up.

Just connect some wires from the battery to the bulbs and Bob's your uncle. What could go wrong...

No, just kidding I've got a R120 12V 5A power supply for an alarm system. Just tested it but must still hook it up properly as Eskom has forgotten to loadshed us for the last month.

I have 2 of them. Can go on when mains go off, batteries last through the night and they are very bright. Batteries are standard types that can easily be replaced.

Those lights are crap .. I know so many people that bought those and are now disappointed. The batteries takes a serious knock if you can't get then fully charged between loadsheds. I'd stay away.

I also have the magneto checkers one and it works really well. No issues on my end

I had one of these and left it permanently plugged in. Worked well for a few months then started dying soon after the power went out. When I opened to replace the battery I measured the voltage when it was charging and realised it overcharges the battery hence why it died a quick death. I then started leaving it on charge overnight and unplug it the next morning. Battery still lasts the blackouts 6 months later.

I peeped the batts are LA's so when those die from being abused I'll just replace with lithiums
