Hi guys

I work for a ISP in the greater pretoria area. We mostly offer high speed capped wireless bandwidth.

One of my clients is disputing his bandwidth usage.

Now the thing is I have no SNMP monitoring system in at the client.

He used about 6GB in one day to the IP address 197.80.133.4 hosted at MWEB
This i found out is hosted by IS.

But there is no real way for me to tell where the bandwidth is going except to go in on all the machines in his network and check each Machine individually?

Now my question is who is this amazonaws.com and what do they provide??

Please assist

Amazon Web Services - a cloud platform: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Web_Services

could be one of any many things

Not entirely sure what assistance you are wanting.

amazon aws is Amazon Web Service. They are one of the biggest IaaS (infrastructure as a service). Basically, you can create massive (or tiny) servers with the click of a button.

Thanks guys but ya so in one day the client dis abut 16GB of traffic to those servers. So im not sure what to tell him as he is questioning whether this data has been done "for real"

Stupid Client gets infected and becomes botnet's b1tch. Stupid client blames isp.

Rinse and repeat.

Lose the client, problem solved.

Literally considering this as it is not my resposibility for the clients firewall security/ antivirus software. But for now i will probably just give him some discount and inform him of his situation

Amazon Web Services also host S3 which is a cloud storage service. No doubt this person is either downloading or uploading something massive to Amazon's cloud storage service.

I am pretty confused about what you want?

as an ISP why would you want to go onto his machines in his network?
Your only responsibility would be to show that he used the bandwidth, after that it would be for his IT team to see who inside was the culprit.

If you can provide clear information showing that they used the bandwidth, then your work is done.

Thanks

Thanks guys I will be able to explain a bit more to the client and get his IT team informed on what is happening form his network. We thrive on customer service. Now I can help the client to reduce his general usage. :wtf:

You may want to rethink trying to convince your customer to reduce his usage. ;)

Have you not posted this before? Got a sense of deja vu here...

Haha yes I have indeed but that was with akaima technologies. Thanks again for the advice

I also had suspicious high data to amazonaws, turns out my iPad was backing up EVERYTHING to the cloud...

Probably what's happening here too. Google auto backup's another one. Client probably has no idea.
